I will approach your question with the assumption you are thinking of joining and want to know the pro's and con's. If you were aking if one was superior as a fighting force the answer is no they all have their roles.
Let me say i served 7 1/2 yrs in the navy and had extensive experience with the other branchs as my technical specialty required that.
Navy
Pro's The on base living quaters and chow halls tend to be better than in the army or USMC. The speed of making promotions is above avg. The Technical Shools are top not and most of those skills transition well into the civilian sector. If you like travel the navy will give you the most opportunities.
Cons
Sea based duty. depending on your specialty you might have to spend extensive time at sea. away from loved ones in both peace and war time. this can can mean 3-6 months at sea yearlly over a 2-3 yr sea billet assignment. Generally longer working hours when at sea is also a problem but then again where is there to go
Army
Pro's- largest of the services offering a wider variety of duty station. also they offer a wider variety of technical specialties than any other service. They also offer the best enlistment bonuses as they have a harder time meeting their goals. As in the navy promotions are rather rapid as compared to other services
Con's- The on base barracks and chow halls tend to be worse. You are more likely to be exposed to actual combat. Lower ranking members tend to get more bureaucratic treatment do to the size of the force. Not all of the technical training translates well to civillian workforce.
Air Force
Pro's Technical training is top notch and most translate well into civillian employment. On base housing and food among the best and hey many of them get to Fly!
Con's- making promotion tends to be the slowest of the 4 services. The range of technical skills is less than in army or navy
USMC
Pro's- They tend to treat every member down to the buck private with a certain dignity as marines that I din't see in the other services especially the Army. Their combat training is top notch and would serve you well if you were in combat.
Con's Their chow and on base housing often lower than the other services. Alot of the technical specialties do not translate compleatly to civillian employment. They have the strictest recruitment standards of the 4 services. you are more likely to see combat as with the army. Lowest level of funding leads to the unofficial USMC motto "We have done so much with so little for so long that we can do almost anything with nothing"
Much depends on what your goals are. Are you gun ho and looking to get in the fight. Are you looking for technical expertise. Are food housing and travel a consideration. Only you can decide that
If you are looking to serve I commend you and I hope I have helped you in some way

ok, man, you wanted as much info as possible... here you go. I am currently in the UASF as an aircraft mechanic (crew chief) on F-16's, going on four years, so i will give you what i can on the AF side:
The Air Force basic is only 6.5 weeks long, and tech school length depends on what career field you choose, or what field the Air Force chooses for you. Some tech schools go on for a couple of weeks, others can take up to 24 months. Mine was 6 months long, however they have shortened it. Basic is very cut and dry military training stuff, however after basic you get quite a bit of liberties, like being able to wear civilian clothes, owning a cell phone, having your own sheets on your bunk, ect ect. The classes are usually about 8-9 hours long, and you march to and from in mass formations, and attend physical training 3-7 days a week.
After tech school, you move onto your first duty assignment, which is when they give you almost complete liberty off duty, and you don't have a curfew (for most bases). However, when your on duty, that is your life for the duration of the duty day. If anybody ever tells you that the Air Force is like having a 9-5 job, kick them in the nuts for me. That's true if your not in the aircraft maintenence field (i.e. you're a dental assistant or work in admin or finance). I haven't seen a less than 12 hour shift in a very long time. You have very few weekends in maintenence, too.
Deployments are something to look forward to, though. The AF used to be a part of the Army, and we still do some Army tasking. When we're deployed, we are issued everything that the soldiers have, drive thier convoys, and do other tasks such as guard insurgant prisons and watch over civilian contractors in Iraq.
The Air Force doesn't pay any more or any less than any of our sister services. If you're on a temporary deployment to another base, you get TDY pay. If you're married and am able to live off base, you get a little extra to help with rent and food. If your deployed to Iraq or overseas, you get a little (not a lot, mind you) more pay. Less than the Army and Marines get, actually.
There is less comradery in the Air Force, though. It's close to every man for himself, unless you get a really good career field.
That's what i can tell ya... One more thing, the Air Force is changing pretty drastically right now. It's so much different now than it was when i joined. Hope this helps ya, man.

And I want to know, how many people answering this question has been in any of them, I can tell by the answers, who has and who hasn't. Some of you are just want ta be's. The right answer is we need all of them in a war. Each compliments the other, And the Marines are part of the Navy...
And Fraginal they aren't the first to land, the Navy seals are, thank you
John V how do you think all the other military people get food, mail, and taken to hospitals, it's the Navy, you don't know nothing. If they Navy didn't have their carriers, how would 6,000 people per carrier get transported?Do you think those tanks drive across the ocean? Do you think the planes have enough fuel to get there with 1 fueling ? How would our troops get their mail dropped to them, by the Navy carriers with an H-53 helo carring it to them that's how. You know nothing of the Navy. They have the best elite team there is... THE NAVY SEALS

I feel sorry for you that you don't realise that each branch of the Armed Services is the BEST at what THEY do.
The Army, Navy, Marine Corp, and Air Force each have different roles in a conflict and to try and compare them is absurd.
However, perhaps you mean advantages/disadvantages regarding joining one specific branch. If you mean that...Go to http://usmilitary.about.com/

I'm not sure about now but when I went in, the Army was a 3 year duty and the rest was 4 years. I chose the Army for that reason and it turned out the best for me. Had I stayed in 4 years it would have been in a very sticky situation and would have wound up somewhere and fighting something I thoroughly disagreed with. The Military is designed to brainwash the young recruits and I like to think I'm not that gullible.

It depends on what you want to do while in the service.
I'd say that if you want to learn some valuable technical skills and want to really see the world, join the Navy.
