The idea is supposed to be that God hates sin, not sinners, and being made in his image, so should we.

There are ac ouple of tricky points here. Firstly, being God, he gets to decide what "sin" is, entirely on the basis of his likes and dislikes - so it's not exactly difficult for him to hate sin, since that's his first instinct. More difficult for us to hate sin, as we live in the material world, and sources of sin are generally regarded as materially driven - greed, gluttony, lust etc.

Secondly, he pulls off this whole "Love the sinner, hate the sin" dissection. Which is easier if you're not embodied, and have had a whole lot of practice at separating people from their actions. We're dreadfully bad at making this distinction. Arguably this is because we're not yet evolved enough to properly practice godlinesss, so we often get it wrong.

Personally, I have a hard time believing that a creature like God - who is theorectically beyond time, and has the full story on every human being - would be able to bring itself to hate anyone, as it would know the steps that took a person from one place to another. The more you know about a person, the less possible it becomes to hate them. So technically if you know everything there is to know about every person, it would seem logical that you knew too much to hate...

He hates sin. Made in His image is the biggest BS I ever heard. There is no likeness in anyway between God and humans. What if we were made in His image but God is bigger than the universe, how is that relevant? God is the Biggest, Strongest, Creator, The One, Unique in all sense of the world. He doesn't sleep, eat, sit and definitely doesn't go to the toilet. If Jesus did than he's not even the cousin of God.

The only thing God hates is SIN, and that is the only thing we are supposed to hate also.

God hates sin but He loves the sinner. When we are wrong by someone we can hate the wrong done to us but love the wrongdoer and to forgive him. This is what God requires of us.
