I dont know, I'm Wiccan. I dont believe my religion is the only right way so it cant be that. I dont believe in a supreme being watching over us (I believe in nature being the highest power), so it cant be that. We dont have a book telling how to live (although we do have a law as such). We do not judge others so it cannot be that....

The only thing i can think of is that all Religions have followers!

Zen Buddhism (among other religions) lacks the notion of God, and some Buddhists even dismiss the notion of supernaturalism.

I would say the most common attribute among religions is that they all have some kind of core tenant or doctrine that mandates proliferation. This tenant or doctrine is familiar to us in the form of salvation. Buddhists offer a path to enlightenment and a detachment from the worldly to escape human suffering (if I understand it correctly).

I suspect in all religions, especially ones that had to compete in order to gain prominence, you will find some notion of salvation or elevation. That notion is what causes religions to proliferate and be passed on to future generations.

It is the only universal attribute I can think of.

None of them can prove the existence of or produce a man that lives in a cloud. All can show in their Book where God told them to tell you that you must financially support them for the rest of their lives. They all pay no taxes. A good percentage of their leaders are overweight.

One thing and one thing only and it is the basis for there being no true religion. They all believe that their way is the only way and will fight you for that belief. Sorry Chuck but that is all they have in common.

A belief in something that is greater than themselves.....

Even among the tribes of the world, there is a belief in something that cannot be seen.... even if some make it with their hands,

there is something that is ultimately called: God
