What could be the cause of the terrible pain i experience when I get out of bed after laying down for any period time, it travels all the way up the back of my leg and into my lower back! Worse in the hamstring area, i am not a runner. Takes a while to wear off but it does eventually. Right leg only.

It sounds like Sciatica. You may have pulled a mucle or tendon in your lower back/buttock area called "the sacrum" This causes irritation and swelling that compress the Sciatic Nerve. It can be very painful at times and and you may need physical therapy to relieve the symptoms.

This could also be the result of a herniated disc which is more serious so it's best to see a doctor and let him make the diagnosis and treatment.

You've probably been trying this already but persist... When he's trotting ask him to go into a canter so that the first stride he takes leads off on the right leg. So, in a trot, as he is just stepping onto his wrong leg, prepare, then push him into a canter. The next stride should be taken with the right leg. Keep up trying like this and you could see results. Some horses get in the habit of doing things a certain way. If you've ever tried to stop smoking or biting your nails you'll know just how difficult old habits are to break! Also, if he's only doing it on one side, he could have pain in his leg or shoulder. I hope I've helped. Hope you have many happy rides to come.

Restless leg syndrome, but the right biochemistry for that is usually only associated with postmenopausal women. Calcium deficiency from poor diet? Very rare in developed countries, and usually not confined to a leg. If you are diabetic, it could be poor circulation leading to diabetic neuropathy. Its definitely poor circulation, but not necessarily caused by diabetes. Talk to your doctor. He should do blood tests, and if that doesn't give a clue an MRI of the leg will.

You are describing the symptom of sciatica.. is a problem in the lower back. Involving nerve roots that supply that particular nerve. Movement will generally relieve the symptom but the condition will recur when ever you are inactive.. Needs to be attended to before it progresses. Is an inflammatory process in action also..

Yeah, I agree with Gloria,

It sounds like RLS.
Doctors use several different types of medications for this condition. Most people take a generic anticonvulsant medication like (brand name) Neurontin (generic) Gabapentin. I would try those first and then you can go to a brand name.
A pharmaceutical represenative would love to get ahold of this question.

Sounds like a trapped or bruised nerve emanating from your back. The pain down the leg is due to the sciatic nerve.

sounds like a trapped nerve, perhaps heat (i.e. hot water bottle) would help to relax the muscles in your leg and perhaps release the nerve. if it persists then see your doctor as trapped nerves can give u worse problems if ignored.
hope this helps.
