Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

It's one way of looking at the world, you decide whether or not you want to follow it.

Basically, if you know something, it doesn't do anyone any good if you keep it to yourself. Share your wisdom with others, and enlighten the world! Spread the enlightenment and do your best to make the world a better place.

Problems you encounter with this are coming off sounding preachy, and appearing insulting to people who already strongly follow a different path.

You should not always have to quietly accept things without question. There is nothing wrong with expressing how you feel, even though there will probably be many who want to just sit and say nothing. Sure, people say stupid things, but the right or wrong thing to say varies. I don't have always have to agree with what someone says, but they still have the right to speak out.

I am not sure where this comes from (is it the bible or a wise saying or a proverb?). But not necessarily. Sometimes it is much wiser to keep silent and it does not have to mean that you are ignorant.

Peace

It should be the other way around if you ask me. Many fools open their mouth, it is the wise that are silent.
