hmm..actually, when u permanently delete a file from your computer(from the recycle bin to be precise)..the file/data is NEVER physically deleted. What happens is that the information about its location on the drive is lost.Every file/data has a specified location(memory location) on the drive where it is actually stored, when u open a file, the data/file in that memory location is called/invoked by the operationg system, in other words, the starting address (memory address in hexadecimal form) and its length are stored in a file. So, when u delete the file from the recycle bin, this information about the location and its lenght is deleted.
Thus, now, when u request for the file(after deleteing), the operating system cannot find the file because it has deleted the original file's address from its(operating system's) allocation table.
Its just like the case that u live in a house with number #45, and u tell ur frnd tht u live in xyz street in house #45, now if your friend loses your address, he cannot find u,but u actually exist.
In simple words, data, once written, is not physically erased(unless u use special techniques/software) magnetically or otherwise, but is only OVERWRITTENThe next time u save a new file, the operating system "overwrites" the original file(whose address it had deleted previously and so it thinks tht that space is empty) and gives its address to the new file.
i hope i am clear..

When you delete a file it goes into your pc's recycle bin. When a file is deleted from recycle bin, windows takes the file address away so it cannot be found. The file still exists until it is overwritten by something else. There are programs available to retrieve deleted files. There are also programs available to chop up your deleted files so they cannot be retrieved.

If Ur Using Windows then that files reference will be available at recyclebin.
that is a reference to that file which is the starting point of the file in the memory.even if U deleted it from the recyclebin then that last reference is also be deleted,so that there is no reference to that perticular block of memory. sothat U can Use that block of memory to create some other new file.
so even if U delete a file that never be completely erased from the disc only the references of that blocks will be deleted.
I think it is the answer for this.
if not tell me the answer.

Strictly speaking, they don't go anywhere, a table is just marked that you have deleted the file and that the disc space it occupies can be re-used. That is why programs can sometimes "recover" the file. What really happens when you delete a file depends on the operating system, sometimes it just "moves" it to another folder/directory (windows), sometimes it marks it for deletion right there (most UNIX systems).

After emptying your Recycling Bin on your desktop, those files Cannot be recovered. But if you had a program installed, & then uninstalled it, you CAN get it back by performing a System Restore by restoring your computer to a date BEFORE you deleted the installed program.

When you delete a file completely it is erased from your hard drive it still leaves a small trace but that you cannot see. If you are looking to recover files you can look for a software that reads those small pieces of information the file left to reconstruct it. But the main answer is they actually stay there and when you save new files in your computer they get overwritten with the new information.
