I have been getting my hair colored by the same lady for the past 3 years. A few days after my last appointment I noticed sore spots or blisters on my scalp. I immediatley called her and let her know. She then told me I developed an allergic reaction and from then on out we were not going to use any product that touches my scalp. This was a huge blow considering I loved my all over hair color and that I didnt know why this was happening. My first thought was I must be allergic to bleach. I was informed that no bleach has EVER been used on my hair. So HELP! I refuse to believe that I cant have an all over hair color. My stylist has looked into it and she said it may be their product(they only use FRAMESI at their salon) but she has concluded that she will not used any product that touches my scalp. This is nice of her to be concerned but at the same time I am misserable and I need to know my options. Any experienced hairstylist out their that can help me with my problem?!

Sometimes your body chemistry changes and out of the blue you will have an allergic reaction to something that youve used for years. In your case haircolor. Dont be alarmed tho, I have seen this happen on many occasions. You could try using a different brand of haircolor, but of course do an allergy test first, behind the ear. If after 24 hours your skin looks fine then you could use that brand. But I wouldnt go so far as to not using any product that doesnt touch your scalp. It probably was just the brand she was using. It really is up to you what you want to do. But I myself would try out other brands to see if one might work for me.

Okay, here's my opinion- are the red dots still hurting you or are they open wounds? Color is my biggest business and I have used multiple lines. I have a client who has very sensitive skin and we have to put a vaseline type substance around her face, because if even a drop touches her skin for a split second, she will get a rash and huge red bumps. But if your skin has never been like that before, why would it all of a sudden just start acting that way?

What I would think it was more than anything, is that your hair stylist used a higher developer than normal. A developer is what activates the color and makes it work. They range from 5-60 and the higher the level the more caustic on your scalp. Maybe your stylist mixed it up wrong and is afraid to admit it. I hate to say that, but it just makes more sence to me than you suddenly have an allergy.

The other thing that could have happened is your scalp could have been irritate, like if your had been scratching it right before you came, or brushed it a lot. It is always a good idea to come to the salon, when you are getting your hair colored, with hair that has been shampooed the day before. The reason being, the oils on your head, protect your scalp.

The last option, in my opinion, is if you recently started a new medication. They can do weird things to your skin and the way your hair excepts color. If I were you, your stylist is afraid that you are going to be upset if you get those blisters again. But if you would rather take the risk and get the color done, I would tell her, "Listen, you are not going to be liable in any way, I love the color we do. I just think my scalp was having an off day. Can you check my scalp before we start to make sure it doesn't look red or irritated." If she says no, that she won't do it- go some place else. Find a salon that does Framesi hair color and have your new stylist call the salon you are currently going to and ask for the formula your stylist uses to color your hair. That way you know that you will get the same results with someone new. Good luck! Hopefully, this has helped you out. I am not saying that it is impossible for you to all of a sudden have an allergy to color, but I just think it was probably another factor and if your scalp heals easily, I would give it another shot, to really see what it is. :O)

What color was this? It sounds like you used a red tone? I worked for years for a large salon and have pretty much heard it all. There are many brands of dye my mother cannot use (both professional and non professional) because she will get the same type of blisters you described. Most people who have this reaction is with a red dye or one with red tones. It's something the manufacturers uses in the pigment. I would assume if you've been using the same dye without a problem till now that the company changed the formula somehow which is really, really common. You definitely had an allergic reaction. You really shouldn't have her dye your hair with the same product because it will happen again. If you are planning on trying anyone else for color, I would set up a consultation first. The appointments are free and they will put a little of the dye behind your ear as a 'test patch' to see if you react before attempting to color. And like I said the same thing happened to my mother and this is after she had been dying her hair for about 30 years.

sounds to me like it was left on too long. if youve been using the same hair color brand you shouldnt have had a reaction to it. the only time ive seen a reaction was due to taking certain medication or just leaving the product on too long. those are burns on your scalp. if she wont do it anymore, change hairdressers. i dont blame her for not wanting her to do your hair again, but she could be sued. any experienced hairdresser can help you with your color good luck
