For sure. Otherwise if you get too strict on yourself you'll just end up chucking it all in. Or having really boring weekends.

OK, you have two separate interpretations of "drink" here. The first is "drink" the second is "drinker". Drink and drinker are not the same thing, do not have the same meanings or connotations. The term "drink" refers to anything liquid an individual is consuming or can consume. "Drinker" referes to somebody who is drinking an alcoholic beverage. So, a "drinker" is actively engaged in the act of consuming alcohol. The term non-drinker is the opposite, as I am sure you are aware. So, to sum this up "drink" is not the same as "drinker". Not at all. "Drinker" has evolved into the meaning is represents today. "Drinker" evolved from "lush" "drunk" "wino" and other negative words. As alcoholism became more understood words which were less negative were searched for to describe what these folks were engaged in. The term "alcoholic" is the most apt description, but it does not take into account those who are "drinkers" but NOT alcoholics. Yep, somebody can drink "abusively" and not be an alcoholic. If they continue to drink abusively they can become an alcoholic, but not all who do so. So, the term "drinker" covers both the alcoholic the budding alcoholic and the non-alcoholic. Hope this helps explain the differences between these terms. It can be confusing when somebody first begins to look at the habits and consequences of "drinking". ;-)
