It is not a hydrophyte.It is tropical plant grows in Tropical AMERICA.It is also called" shy plant",because of its unique character.
When ever any body either human or animals, touch the plant,it folds the leaf in such a way that it droops and stays in that position and reopens in minutes, it is also called as drooping plant or sensitive plant
The plant a good example for studying for plant movements which is a rare character in plants
The main reason for plant movements is due to the sensitive substance present in the swollen leaf base or pulvinus.
Some scientists say it is due to the turgor pressure changes in the plant parts

Mimosa pudica also known as sensitive plant is a really cool plant. I used to have a few a long time ago. When you brush against the plant the leaves would fold together and reopen in a minute or two. It would also fold its leaves at night, after sunset.
