If your skin has naturally large pores, you can only temporarily mask this. There are many toners on the market that will help to shrink pores before you apply your makeup. Placing an ice cold face cloth on your face will also close up your pores until your skin becomes flushed/warmed or you sweat.

Pores do not "open" or "close." Yours could be on the large size and unfortunately there is no way to change the size of your pores. Some of the best ways to minimize the appearance of large pores is to exfoliate 2x a week (less if your skin is sensitive), use a product such as the Biore pore strips 1x per week (or not more than every 3 days), and to use a salicylic acid based cleanser and/or moisturizer. This helps to unclog pores, which will help them appear smaller.

The Clinique pore range is really good, although is a little pricey. Especially the pore refining serum.

apparently if you steam the area it opens the pores sufficiently to clean them out and if you use baby lotion, for some reason it tends to close over the area again. Sudocream is also great to use as its oily based and tends to heal the area better
