I know several & no matter how often i report them, they never get in trouble!
On the other hand,I get treated like a dopehead looking for a high, every time I have to go to the ER!
I have to use a walker & a wheelchair sometimes & am on alot of meds.
I have a painful muscle disease & been on pain meds for quite a while,& I never try to get more than the DR allows & never ask for anyone else's meds
However,I beat them off me with a stick!
As anyone can tell you, migraines take more than regular pain meds can dish out,so I do not abuse my meds by taking extra when i get a migraine or a bad muscle attack.I go to the ER or the DR.
This happens about every 3 months or so,& sometimes once or twice a month..Last month & this month I had a bad time.
Everytime, the ER staff will treat me like a dopehead,or the DR will say i am addicted or abusing my meds!
I have been trying to get to a pain management DR.,but my insurance is a gov.run clown shop! How can i be taken seriously & not suffer?

PS:I do not go to the ER everytime I have a flareup or a migraine & try to keep it with my DR.
As far as the ppl I know are not disabled,I have known them for a long time & have heard them brag, that all you have to do is pretend you can't count or remember things!
I know how the disabled are treated, because i get treated like a fat ,lazy cow(& been called that!)when i am having good days!
No one wants to be in a wheel chair or on a walker!I use mine as little as possible, but when a person has never worked except at working the system or another person to take care of them,it makes me & others very angry!

I wish I could tell you how to be taken seriously about your pain. I have had migraines, fibromyalgia and other problems from car accidents. I just try to get from one day to the next. I quit going to the emergency room for migraines when my daughter, now 25 was little and I was pregnant. The nurse did not give me the anti-nausea drug with the pain med. Narcotics only make me feel worse in the end, so I don't go there.

On the other hand, a friend who is an ER nurse tells me that bums go in claiming to have toothaches and they get strong pain medicine which they take out and sell, then return for more. The hospital is afraid to not give for fear of being sued! What a topsy-turvy world!

I go to acupuncture and it has helped some.
Have you tried adding extra magnesium? It helps for migraine and muscle spasms. It isn't a cure but it does help, just not right away.

Well the only suggestion I can give you, as far as migraines go,
is to ask your doctor to put you on Inderal to prevent them. In the beginning you may need something like imitrex or fiorocet to take along with the inderal but, trust me, after about a year, you will no longer have migranes that won't subside with either extra strength excedrin or just plain excedrin.I have been on it for 10 years now. I used to have terrible debilitating migraines, sometimes for 4 days straight.THANKS TO INDERAL....I AM MIGRAINE FREE.
sorry to hear about your other medical problems, I hope you find some relief soon. Try going to a neurologist instead of the ER..
they really don't treat repeat patients very kindly....good luck

That really is to many trips to the ER. Which suggests there needs to be a change in how your Dr. is treating you. He or she needs to find a new approach to treat you so you dont end up in the ER so much.

Or you need to have your Doc on your side with this and leave standing orders at the ER for you.
Otherwise it is just to easy for the ER staff to flag you as a drug seeker. It is because so many do abuse--they ruin it for legit chronic pain pts.

Your already being treated for the pain but it sounds like your dosage is no longer helping or your would not need the ER. So a talk with your doc about a med increase is in order.

I dont know what your taking but if your being treated with acute meds--like vicoden or percocet--it would explain much. CP needs to be treated with extended release meds as the other meds are only meant for short term pain episodes. Used for long term pain the rise and fall of the short acting meds creates a scenario for what appears to be abuse but is most often a fast tolerance and frankly they simply stop working.

On your other point--becareful who you label "cheaters" as I have found many who are disabled seem perfectly fine but in fact they are not.
Disability is not just assigned to folks in wheelchairs --it is for anyone with a condition that alters their ability to function day to day in a productive way and therefore effecting their ability to hold down a job. This type of condition must meet certain criteria as far as longevity and prognoses.

Disability is not easy to get and most often people are denied right away and have to fight for it. Those that dont need it--dont often go so far as to fight for it as the whole process is a nightmare.

The reason you get treated like a drug seeker is because you go to the ER so often with pain, and seek drugs to control it. Thus, drug seeker.

Stop abusing the ER's time. I promise you there are actual emergencies happening in there, and your need for stronger narcotics aren't one of them.

If your family doc isn't helping you, find another one.

How to be taken seriously? Try to stop going every month. Try to deal with the pain in non-medicinal ways. Change your lifestyle. If they offer you Toradol instead of Demerol, don't whine that it won't work.

Take control of your life.
