The most polite thing you can do is to tell him that it's not your policy to give your phone number b/c of past stalker problems. Or if he still bugs you about it, tell him to give you his number. Then if you don't call him, set him up with someone else, if possible.

I'll don't like to request phone numbers from woman rather I'll willingly give mine to her and some of them willingly give it to me. Ask his numbers and tell him that is better to call you rather than you call me, simple! If, he is not happy then "FO" him.

i always ask a girl mobile phone when i introduce myself to start friend relationship. of course, i give mine too to her.
