After disc surgery, the mechanics of the spine are altered and the muscular firing pattern may become faulty. Exercises that are designed to target the deep stablizers of the spine are often utilized. In someone who has had a recent surgery, but has a healed incision, a water-based physiotherapy program is often successful as pain is usually reduced as the spine is unloaded in the water.

I recommend Active Release Technique. It is performed by a therapist or chiropractor but it is NOT traditional chiropractic. You will want to be very wary of traditional chiropractic since your discecotmy. Active release is a very aggressive treatment where the adhesion in the muscle are broken up. It hurts like a mutha' but it sure works!!!!! Go to activereleasetechique.com and see if there is a provider in your area. Trust me, I've tried everything this side of surgery and this has saved me! It's kept me OUT of the operating room!

Good luck!

have you tried going to a Massage Therapist, They can help to ease the tension in the muscles around the disc and eleviate any stress being caused by the spasms, which will in turn reduce any pain you may have, I recommend a Massage session once a week till the end of your life. It si healthy for you and can also prolong your life by relieving stress and tension

May want to check with a doctor of chiropractic.. they will go after what is causing the spasm, rather than trying to relieve the symptom.
