Try sending him a package that will remind him of home. He will need the reminder especially being away from home during the holidays. Throw in some items that represent his favorite sports team (hat, jersey, cards, etc). Put together a stocking (with all of his favorite treats)...this gives him something special to do on Christmas day. Include some DVD's for him and his buddies to watch as they are sure to get some down time for the holidays. And include some PICTURES just to make him smile. Try to get some from his family too and make a small album for him to enjoy. Have fun with it!
You will need to package everything securly, make sure nothing is persishable or illegal (alcohol, cigs, porn) and take it to the Post Office. You should try to have the package sent by the beginning of December so it will make it to him by Christmas. Military Mail runs slower around the Holidays especially since it has so far to go.

For sure a small tree. If he is in Iraq or any other Muslin country he will see NO x-mas decorations displayed. I was in Bosnia, and it was so hard not see any holiday stuff out. Stuff you don't think he needs, like his favorite cologne or soap. A shirt that he loves to see you wear. They will probably get candy and cookies from their leadership etc, but it never hurts to get more. Have him register with www.anysolider.com He can request gifts etc, and a great site for anyone who likes to give back to a service member.

send of course a nice christmas card... last year I sent my BF a HUGE box full of socks, working gloves, foot powder, about three black beanie hats, some long johns...lol...some t-shirts, coloring books and crayons(he actually liked it!) , a stocking FULL or stocking stuffers...candy, beef jerky, some odor eaters cushion things, he loved those! Bars of soap, toothbrushed, toothpaste. If you have a great sense of humor and he knows it, send some funny stuff like the kids brand toothpaste (My BF said his roomie tried to steal it) and I even sent him a Transformer doll (since he loved those when he was a kid) He was so appreciative and loved because I sent him out-of-the ordinary stuff that he never expected. Like crazy christmas toys....he just loved it! I had a ball shopping for him!

The christmas decorations are a nice touch, but photos of you and his family would be a better way to lift his spirits. Some special treats also would be nice. Send some civilian clothes. It is nice to sit around in civies when you are deployed and are on your off time.

Somethign practical, id he's in a place where he has a bed and electricity (and most of us do), an electric blanket. It's starting to get cold.
If he's in a FOB where they don't have regular electricity, or are sleeping on cots then any kind of time waster is appreciated--handheld electronic games, cards, books, magazines.
Add in whever kind of hard candy he likes and maybe some beef jerky.

A small Christmas tree is always nice, and maybe some lights, but of course the one thing every boyfriend likes is new pictures of his girlfriend to show off to his buds.

Make a home video of you and your life and how different it is without him, don't try and be a star, just sit the camera down and go about your daily routine, he feel like, you're with him, and when he gets to missing you, he can play the video and see you in true form, priceless

If you can bake, homemade cookies would be great. My husband loved the ones I sent when he was in Iraq.
