I'm not so sure that it would be a benefit to our soldiers who are currently training, fighting and giving their lives for this country. If there is a draft you would get people who don't want to be there, who don't want to be fighting for our country and that may decrease morale of the thousands of guys and gals who have volunteered to do this. There is no shortage of enlistees right now and I think we should go with the ones who have the courage to sign up without being drafted. I'd feel much safer for my husband knowing that the guys who are backing him up, want to be there backing him up.

Yes, there are people who would do great job if they were drafted. It wouldn't be because they wanted to but because they wanted to get back home as soon as possible.

Either way, we need to support what they are doing.

Hate war not wars, hate fighters not the soldiers who fight!

No, because even with the draft, not everyone would serve and those that are healthy and still want out just have to say they are gay. Also the rich would again put their kids in college and the National Guard.

It would go back to being an all volunteer force, with those wanting to serve serving.

The U.S. military is due for another downsizing. If only 10% of the U.S. forces are needed in Iraq and all that's left really is some terrorists in Afganistan and a couple of nut cases (North Korea and Iran), there really isn't a need for a large army.

If there were a draft in place when George Bush conned the country into going to war in Iraq, I think we would not be there today. There would have been an uproar about sending ordinary citizens to go fight there based on flimsy evidence.
On the other hand, even with a draft, it took year of protesting to finally bring an end to the Vietnam war.
I think this country likes to go to war in different places, especially its military leaders. So even with a draft, the country will still go to war a lot.
That being the case, it is probably better to not have a draft, so at least the ones going to fight are doing so because that's what they want to do.

I prefer the all volunteer force for a number of reasons. The most important is training. We need to get our priorities back in line after George B. and send the active duty forces to do the heavy fighting. We have a draft {in reverse} now. The guard and reserve were deployed to dodge criticism. The only positive would be less inclination to go to war. If the draft is implemented, there should be NO deferments of any kind.

MAYBE..it might help bring a dose of reality into the lives of those who lack dicipline and motivation to achieve anything on their own...
The post hippy kids got everything handed to them...or told the government should/would MUST make sure theycan get stuff like low cost/free housing/enemployment/ medical treatment/ a job with a minimum "fair" wage. AS the parents(ex. hippies) matured technology exploded TVs, gaming systems , wireless phones, drugs were still around but hey theparents survived and some still enjoyed their weed...kids shouldnt be forced into doing "anything" as "freedom is the "right" to choose what ,when, if, whatever.....

we have far to many in this country who can recite their favorite sport teams stats, are extremely adept at handing video/computer game controllers, have decided that "the system" can be scammed / there is always a loophole or someone one's gotta "help" them or that some lawyer will sue,get $$ for them because they "got rights".

The draft might actually teach some
- the basic facts of life....
How one lives his/her life and the degree of success (however its defined),enjoyment, and ability to pursue or purchase a particular type of life style is not simply a "right"
Simply put...each individual must choose a path and work on the skills needed to succeed
The desire for $$, fancy cars, hot electronics, clothes, high paying job, etc- without the effort, determination and focus on the goal is simply a recipe for dissatisfaction and anger..as "others" have what you want. Life is not fair --> But the USA is the ONLY country where anyone, from any background can get educated, trained and assisted...
yet we have far too many aimless wanderers who believe that they need do little except squawk for more money, or "help"... (i.e. if you can support one child..why keep getting pregnant? if you dropped out of school and cant stand the idea that there are no "good paying jobs" then why not gt a GED/skilled training?)

.and even simple basic skills
like how to buils a fire, do CPR ,read a map, that work produces more than just cash, that learning a skill requires effort ,that waiting for something to be done is less productive than actually doing it... complaining that xx complany wont hire you or charges too much for premium cable service,or game tickets ..etc. how to make make change when the computer cash registers go down, that everyone daily does things they dislike such as taking out the trash, waiting in line, traffic, grouchy bosses, etc...

NOOOO!!!!! Take it from a vet. The worst thing you can do to the military is dump a bunch of people in that don't want to be there. The military is much better now than during the draft years. If you don't want to do something you are not going to give it 100%. 100% is what it takes at times to stay alive or help your buddies come home safe.

No. There are so many people who are trying to join--AF specifically that they are cutting down.

They are handing out LORs (Letters of Reprimand) left and right--kicking people out and not allowing them to re-enlist. There have been so many "honorable discharges" that I cannot count. Even officers are not being promoted because of the high number of people involved in this force.

I believe that more people are trying to join the Air Force then the other services. While that's great for the AF recruiters I also think it should be important for all military forces to work as a team. Sure, recruiters need to meet their quotas but I still believe that if they persuaded more of the people trying to enlist in the AF to the other services we'd all even out and there would be no need for a draft.

Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve should be working TOGETHER in recruiting. If they were doing this there would be no need for competition or a draft.

yes to get back at those anti-military people. I'm so sick of people blame Iraq on the soldiers. It was Bush and other High up people idea and the military had to carry it out.
