I don't want to rush her to the vet for nothing is she's not. She is a 5 year old Beagle, who was getting round with age to begin with. It's just that recently like the last few weeks she's gotten rounder than usual. Her nips have always been big to begin with so I can't use that as a sign.

I was breeding her on purpose first of all(thanks so much to the person who implyed I was an ignorant). I've just never breed a dog before. True, I should be researching it more thoroughly online. Thanks, genuinely to those that answer genuinely.

G'day birde80,

Thank you for your question.

The best way is to take your dog to the vet. There are a number of ways your vet will tell:

* ultrasound:
* feeling the abdomen 20-30 days in for swelling;
* the presence of relaxin; and
* x-rays 45 days in.

You may also see your dog go off her food in the third week.

It takes a dog an average of 62 days to give birth after conception. You don't have much time so take her to your vet so you can start preparing for it.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

By four to five weeks you will see the belly definetly expand, the nips get fuller looking. The vulva stays swollen. Sometimes at three weeks along they get a little morning sickness which means less eating, vomiting, it lasts about 4 days. By 6-7 weeks you should be able to tell for sure by looking at the belly. It will be big and haning and milk may start to come in. It takes 9 weeks for the entire process, so it's somewhat quick but seems to take forever when you are waiting to find out.
Personally, I don't recommend getting x rays unless you suspect a problem. I have yet to hear of an x ray showing the accurate number of pups. But, it can confirm there are pups. I just wouldn't place a bet on the number they see or think as being the final count. It is just as easy to wait a couple more weeks to see for yourself if that belly is really big. At 7-9 weks you can sometimes feel the puppies moving if you lay your hand on your dogs belly and side of the belly.

NOW, PLEASE go and purchase some books on whelping and rearing puppies. There a lot of supplies and instructions you will need that it isn't the best to find out on a message board. Reading and knowing what is coming and what to expect and being able to identify emergencies is what you need.
Good luck!

It takes four to five weeks after a mating before you have any way of knowing. The vet can palpatate at 28 days and your dog will begin to eat more and her belly will get rounder. However this is not the place to do research. If you are asking here then you do not need to breed your dog. Do the poor dog a favor and get it a spayed or nuetered ASAP!!!!
EDIT: the vet can not do an x-ray until 45 days after the first mating!!!

It takes about 4 weeks before you will see visible signs of pregnancy in a dog. At this time you will see her breasts swelling, her tummy rounding out and probably a change in behavior. A dog is only pregnant for about 62 days, so you won't have much time to prepare for puppys if you wait to see visible signs.

It depends on how far along she would be. There are some very good books about breeding/whelping. I would suggest you get one or two so that you are prepared.

Several very good ones here.

If she is pregnant, she will start to lactate milk I think a couple of weeks before having her puppies.

MAYBE...YUO CAN TAKE HER TO THE VET FOR AN EXRAY..THAT WOULD SHOW IF ANY PUPS WERE THERE...THE VET CAN COUNT THE SPINES TO SEE HOW MANY PUPS SHES HAVING..IF NOT..JUST WAIT..YOU WILL SOON TELL IF SHE KEEPS GETTING LARGER..AND YOU SEE THE PUPS MOVE IN HER TUMMY
