If you can go to a college, or join a local club go for it, it's much better to have the Tutor right there with you. Any other way is the hard way to get the 'overview' of the subject you need, it will seem more complicated than it actually is and will take much longer. (Years instead of weeks) The basics are actually pretty strait forward, the countless variations, specialties and techniques only time and experience will teach, but a basic course will have you taking good pictures (Instead of snaps) in a few weeks. Take hundreds of pictures, each one will have a lesson in it, not least of which is 'seeing' the picture in the first place! Think of it as learning the scales before you start to play tunes on a piano. Enjoy and good luck. Chris

John Hedgecoe's Complete guide to Photography and John Hedgecoe's Photography Basics are the two best books for beginning photographers. Check to see if he has a book on digital photography, too.

Get the photography for Dummies book. It's worth the price and it'll put you a middle level in no time. I started with that book, you can take a look to my work at www.pmdv.com
Good luck,
