Around here we have big trash day once a month, and people put out lots of perfectly good furniture just because they no longer want it. The 2nd hand furniture dealers come out with trucks and trailers and haul off the good stuff before the refuse trucks get to it. Once it's at the curb it's fair game, you might try that if they have a similar program where you're at, plus it's free.

Ask your friends and relatives if they have something they are not using and would like t get rid of. They usually have kept things so long, but if someone comes around that needs it, they would be glad to probably give it to you or sell it very cheaply For a coffee table, you could get 4 block for the legs and go to home improvement store and they will cut the wood the lenght you want it. Yard sales are a great way to pick things up cheap. You can decorate an entire house from yard sale items. With a little cleaning and painting, it can look like new. Good luck on your finds.

Thrift stores and yard sales are the best for cheap furniture. As far as free goes, drive around and look for stuff people are throwing away. Often they just need a little minor repair, refinishing, or upholstering. Good luck!

Boards and crates make up great college shelves and entertainment centers! Some friends of mine found some crates for free behind a convenience store. Sometimes you can get free wooden crates over at the grocery store.

You need to start driving around at night looking for FREE couches and pop one in your truck. We have thrift stores near me which will sell you a couch for under $100.

For a table... go grab a card table at Walmart for $10 and throw a vinyl tablecloth over it. (in fact if you only use paper plates, you could get away with making fewer dirty dishes). Good luck with your furniture.

Let's see... Saturday morning yard & garage sales can feature some pretty good deals- if you have the means to take it away. You'd be surprised at the good stuff you can find at your local Salvation Army, Goodwill, & Thriftshop stores. And if you're REALLY hard up, you can hire yourself out as a weekend attic cleaner & take half of your earnings in furnishings that the little old lady who hired you- would've thrown out anyway. Happy interior decorating! :)

Craigs list (www.craigslist.org) is a free online classified service. you can check if people near you are giving things away for free. You can also ask around your school and spread the word. often someone will remember you when another friend is getting rid of some furniture.

You can go to the salvation army, or a good will store, or just keep your eyes out for people putting different items by the street. sometimes you can find some nice items. So cruz around the upper class neighbors, you just might see something you like.

Try looking for used furniture stores in your area. You can find some really great deals at those places.
