I do believe in God.

A lot of people have told me to read the bible. I have read a good portion of the bible and still have found no comfort. It is hard to read something that is not original and has been changed many many times. Where can I find comfort in a religion with this?

I was also raised catholic. Went to catholic school and attended church and went to bible study every Wednesday. I didn't believe in God for many years and didn't follow any religion. I really don't think I understood the soul of the religion until recently.
You need to do your own searching into the beliefs of Catholicism. If you still don't believe, you should look into other religions. I have come to the recent conclusion that certain aspects of all religions are based in truth. Because we don't have the copies of the original passages of the bible (and even if we did, we probably couldn't understand the arabic) there is no way to tell how much interpretation and translation and years of reprinting have bastardized the truth. (how many versions of the bible are there now, anyway?)

Seek your own truth. Whatever you are comfortable with is what you should go with.

The reason you cannot completely believe in Jesus is because you are logical. If everyone in the world told you the sun was blue and you never looked at the sun, would you believe them? How can you believe word of mouth? How can you believe what they say without proof? Then one day you look at the sun and it isn't blue...All these people that believe in the story of The Bible are using faith. They aren't using reason or logic, they are believing blindly in a story written ages ago. You need to read about the many religions, and decide for yourself. I am guessing that you will end up either believing in no religion, a combination of religions, or coming up with your own. The more open-minded the religion is, the more likely you are to believe in it. Never let any religion take away your logic!

The Catholic Church has teachings that are anti-bible. They are a cult, and not a religion. What you need to do is find a good Bible believing Christian Church. If you find a church that uses any book other than, or in addition to the Bible, run. A good Church uses the Bible, and only the Bible as it's source.

try high magick I was brought up in an anglican back ground and never have had any thing conflict in this system of belief it focuses more on the self worth of an individual rather then a group dynamic, It doesn't deny gods existence just seeks more evidence and seeks active relationship with aspects of it, Please note i am not referring to pagan or wicca these are typically regarded as low magick and there is a large variation between the tichniques in Wicca and that used in high magic , Eliphas Levi - the Great secret (occultism unvielded is an excellent starting point). Eliphas (aka alfonso coinstance ) was a catholic priest who was excommunicated for teaching doctrine which contradicted the Roamn Catholic Churches ideals

I think if you want to be religious but it doesn't come naturally, then you have some faith issues to overcome. The best thing to do is find and consult a spiritual advisor whom you trust. There are many beliefs out there. All of the pretty much revolve around believing in one or more higher powers and living a decent life. If you feel you need to have a higher power, but have trouble actually believing that there is one, then you may need to find another sense of direction.

I can under stand your dilemma in a way.
What I would do is don't rush into this.
Have you read the Bible? I know the catholic church does not encourage it...so read the Bible check out the scriptures especially about Jesus get to know him and his teachings. How he loved people and children, gave his time to heal the sick, comfort the lowly ones, fed people...thousands of them by miracles. Even brought back to life some of the dead people.
His perfect human qualities displayed in his life magnified his creator, and done what his father taught him. He even gave his life for us all.
That is a starter for you...take your time do research about Jesus.
That would be a foundation for you when checking out other beliefs see if they stick to what Jesus taught.
And they practice what they preach...may the creator bless you in your quest to believe in his Son Jesus.
One thing...Please read this scripture in your Bible.
1 Thessalonians Chapter 5: verse 21.
Peace.....

I will give you an advice.
God is not the author of confusion, like you see in the teachings of the Christians, they give so much importance to the story of the cross, who was witness of it, what really happen, before, during and after this event, and they forget about God completely.
All the teaching is about the lamb, the blood, the sin,.... so where is the message for humanity, for mankind?
is the message worship God alone? or is it just take it easy, Jesus died for your sins, just have fun !!!.
also too many mysteries, confusions,.....
would you spend all your life looking for the truth, mysteries...?
do you imagine yourself in the day of judgment with unresolved mysteries ? it would be too late at that time if you didn't know the truth now
I will explain this to you in a short story:

Take a class in comparative religion at a local Jr. College or a class at a local university if there is one near you. Or find a book that tell you the basic of each faith. Visit a few. Talk to people. Take your time, it is a very serious decision.

Well.. one thing that is "out here" is a personal relationship with Jesus, rather than one that is more...based upon church traditions and ceremony. Instead of having The Church as the moral authority, you can have a meaningful understanding of a God who loves you and offers an amazing plan for your life. I used to be in a similar place as you... tired of the routine of "churchlife" and feeling like it was dry and dead. What was dry and dead was my soul. I had expected the Priest to fill up my soul with exciting things, it was only after I learn to pray for myself and ask God to show me what the Bible says about living "an Abundant life" and finding out how powerful God is, that's when my soul sucked up the things of God like a sponge-I have never looked back and I have never felt that frustrated, dry, deadness ever again. I would look for someone who can pray with you and for you that you trust. God is faithful, he sees you and he would love for you to join him in the amazing plan he has for you. Blessings

Try Christianity!! Mary cannot help you, neither can any person who has died, and is still in the ground. Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.

I am talking about a personal relationship with Jesus, not just head knowledge, but heart knowledge as well.

Check out an Assemblies of God Church. We teach the whole Bible, not just what people want to hear.
