because it would CHANNEL that air flow DIRECTLY onto the vehicle behind the truck and thats not safe.

Actually there are some that are faired into a parabolic shape.
Sadly, the economics favor a square back-end with swinging doors. As fuel continues to increase in cost, perhaps the economics will favor the more efficient shape.

THE BACK IS SQUARE BECAUSE THAT WAY IT HOLDS MORE CARGO WHICH MAKES MORE MONEY!!it's not economically sensible-plus higher speeds on trucks=higher risk for accidents.
