Sweet Red Wines for Healthy Drinking

First, the easiest wines for most new drinkers to handle are the white zinfandel and white merlot style.

Another very sweet red is port, the dessert wine.
Port is higher alcohol than a regular wine, but is rich, thick and sweet. It goes great with chocolate and is wonderful for fireside sipping. It gets you used to the rich, complex flavors that wine offers.

First thing to remember is 'Moderation is the key'. For the heart drink a red wine. Find something you like, that is inexpensive no more than a glass or 2 a day is necessary, but one a day is optimal.

I enjoy Black mountain Fat Cat Cabernet Sauvignon. Can pick up at Trader Joes for about $6 a bottle.

Cheers

For the price, and if you're just drinking for your health, Franzia Chillable Red is a really good choice, and about $10 a box. Boxed wine is the best choice if you're drinking a glass a day for your health, it won't go bad like bottled wine will. And it's good for cooking too.

For a sweet red wine, try a lambrusco. It's inexpensive, is lightly sparkling and had a great flavor that accompanies alot of dishes really well AND you get all the health benefits of a classic red.

Drink a nice red port. It is sweet, and all wine is good for your heart, white is usually recommended because it has fewer calories.

Any red will do.. though if you like your wines sweet - head off to the dessert wine section - port, sherry.... though if you really want to have fun, get a wine kit and start making your own. It is soooo much cheaper and way more fun :)

I would suggest a red wine made from the Dolcetto grape, an Italian grape from the area of Piedmont. Meaning "little sweet one" this varietal is soft, fruity and has very little tannin.
