The colon is perfectly capable of cleaning itself, providing you eat a balanced diet and are not in the habit of getting constipated. I know people talk about toxins and such, but really if you actually did eat something toxic, it would have long been absorbed into the system if it could be long before anything you ate or drank could remove it. Things which irritate the intestines are removed rather rapidly by the body itself, which is why folks get diarrhea to begin with. There is a population of beneficial bacteria in the gut which help with digestion, absorption, and usage of nutrients, and diarrhea tends to remove them from the system more rapidly than they can replace themselves. Until they are replaced, you do not get the full benefit of your dietary nutrients. Colon cleansings can also irritate the delicate mucous membranes lining the entire intestinal tract, which in turn set you up for other problems- irritable bowel and possibly even cancer if done often enough. Nature provided you with a self contained, self cleaning system that needs no upkeep or maintenance by you, other than a sensible diet. It's not like the outside of you, and won't benefit from being cleaned.
Proponents of colon cleansing go on about removing the toxins from your system. But any toxins you ingested would have long been absorbed into the system before any "cleansing" action could remove it. Anything left behind would simply be moved on down the line by the body without any need of assistance from you. Most people do what they can to avoid diarrhea. Aside from the inconveniece of making multiple bathroom visits, it can dehydrate you, upset your electrolyte balance, and leave you ill. Although most people are well enough nourished to be able to recover from the inbalance, there is still no good reason to disrupt a normally functioning colon just for the sake of cleanliness, especially since it is an artificial state which can't be maintained and have you stay healthy. Rather than clean something not designed to be cleaned in that manner- eat a good balanced diet heavy on the fruits, veg and whole grains, and go easy on the meat and junk. You'll be far healthier, and your colon will be much happier.
