I wondered about this too. Interestingly:
"Sweets aren't good either, because they cause tooth decay as they do in us - and cats don't brush their teeth. But don't feel bad. Cats can't actually taste sweets, so they don't even know what they're missing."(1)
I don't know how accurate that is, but it goes a long way to explain cats and ice cream -- it must just be creamy cold goodness.
Then, on a list of 'foods you should not feed your cat' --
"Sugary foods -- Can lead to obesity, dental problems, and possibly diabetes mellitus."(2)
Uh, okay. But I don't think there're many cats who live off ice cream, and "a few licks" are not going to make him fat, let alone sick.
If he keeps having a few licks and shows no signs of distress after it, I'd quit worrying and let him get his licks in. Commercial "cat food" is a relatively recent invention, and -- yeah, it's not healthy, but, clearly, not healthy on the same level it's not healthy for you. Translation: no big deal.
Mine considers pasta with butter and grated cheeses a great treat; I was amused by seeing a kitten slurp up spaghetti, got worried, but am now inclined to relax over it. Pasta, butter, and romano are not toxins for cats. It's a microscopic amount of her usual hyper-premium cat food (with filtered water from a fountain, and 'cat grass'), so -- so, now I put a couple of nibbles on one of her dishes when I make it. Enjoy sharing your ice cream.

Yes, u can give your cat ice-creams. Ice-cream is like milk - they are from the same group of family call dairy products and they are not harmful to cats. Pratically, cats eat anything. But, do consult a vet first if you're still doubtful.

Cats really can't digest dairy products and chocolate isn't good for them but there is always one cat who hasn't read the manual. If your cat seems to like ice cream a taste won't kill him. When people say cats can't have this or that they are thinking of stupid people who will try to raise a cat on a diet of hot fudge sundaes. If 95% of his diet is made of good quality cat food, you can let him have a taste of what ever you are eating that he thinks he wants. Sometimes, cats are just curious, and they want to see what your are eating there and after giving it a taste they say, "boy humans sure eat some strange things."

its cream and eggs, which cats like.
give him a few licks, and if he keeps it down, it might be a nice "treat" if he's been behaving.
just follow the basic rules of what cats can eat without getting hurt, no coffee or chocolate ice creams. And no onion ( Hey, i've seen it)

A few licks is okay - interesting how they like it off a cone! I usually will put a spoon of it on a dish, but some cats just like to lick mine!

My cat eats a little bit of ice cream too. His favorite is vanilla. I know for sure that cats can't eat onions or anything that may have come in contact with onions. They can make them very sick.

This is a great question. I would like to know the answer also. My cat likes milk and cheese also. Are these foods bad for cats? She seems alright.
