I have used several programs as well as study in university.

If your main goal is verbal communication in Russian, I think the Pimsleur program is very good. It takes you from the very basics, using realistic and useful dialogue. All lessons are audio and provide a lot of repetition to help learn the material. There are at least three consecutive courses.

If, on the other hand, you wish to be able to read and write as well as speak, then I like the Rosetta Stone program. Again, lots of practice in a very nicely presented format.Easy to use and it even keeps track of your progress.

Of course if you have internet access, there are many resources for Russian study. The programs mentioned above are not cheap, but are quality learning aids.

Russian!!! great choice lol [im russian ha ha ha] sorry.... well i would have to suggest 'Rosetta Stone' in addition, i also suggest finding a native russian person who knows the language well to help you learn. trust me, its easier that way when learning a language. and if you want some free begginers stuff to start you off, there are some podcasts you can listen to on itunes. good luck! :)
