I mean, worship at church is kinda distracting...
I know the Bible says not to forsake the assembly of others...
but I feel closer to God... by myself... in private away from distractions...
What about you?
Do you have any thoughts?

I don't have nothing against church.
I like my church...
Sure there are alot of churches that I would never want to be in....
because some are better than others...
I like being alone anyway
I don't want 50 friends hanging around all of the time...

I consider my very personal relationship with Jesus a private matter...
I confess things to him in private...
not while hundreds of others are all around me...
To tell you the truth:
I would rather have Him than a girlfriend or a wife or friends.... honestly
Maybe its' just becasue I'm a loner... I don't know...
Wasn't Paul the same way?

That's awesome and a special gift to love time alone with the Lord.
I love being in church.
I think the scripture about forsaking the assembly is important - I think it has to do with the example of Jesus - how he was amogst people and ministered to them. You have to be among people to be supported and support them. And sometimes it is harder to stay inspired on your owm - experiencing worship together is powerful.
I think both are important and needed.

There is a difference between religion and spirituality and only you can decide what mix is best for you.
Some people consider themselves Christians, but never go to church or just on major holidays. (all spirituality, no religion)
Some people go to church regularly, but do it out of habit and don't truly believe (all religion, no spirituality)
There are many "flavors" of Christianity and every church within a particular branch has a different feel to it. Maybe you need a new church that is less distracting.
It also may depend on what you were raised as. I was raised Southern Baptist, which had quiet and restrained services (although I do realize not all churches are like that). I went to a Pentecostal service once and all the shouting out during the service and moving freaked me out a little. I tried a Unitarian service once, but it wasn't rigid enough for what I was used to and felt uncomfortable.
And don't dismiss giving yourself private time each day, or once a week in addition to church services for God. Set aside a time for private prayer/meditation/communion/whatever you want to call it.

I do agree with you. Although when you go to church it's suppose to be a group of believers that are coming to one but like an example I'm baptist and some of the members in baptist churches tend to have clicks, competition in who is dress the best and who is praising the lord the loudest. So I do agree with you with being within on self but at the same time I do know that the lord does say to praise him in his house, so I will suggest maybe checking out more churches that you feel more at home, more comfortable. GOD BLESS

There are some of us who prefer to worship God alone and that is not wrong, but certainly God ordained also ,that we should not be alone, we should also worship God as a community . If you feel distracted in a big fellowship then try to find a smaller community where you can join them in worship maybe finding a place for yourself a little bit secluded from them.

Hi splinter_in_Finger. Attending or not attending church has nothing to do with a persons Salvation. The Bible teaches that tares (unsaved) sat next to wheat (saved) in the pews. God tells us in Matthew 13:24-30:
"...The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
God at one time used Synagogues to deliver His Word. He finished using that system at the time of the cross and then begun to use the new churches that were created for that purpose. Now, that we are in the "end times" and many false gospels are being preached in churches.God wants individuals to spread the Gospel, The Truth.

That's why I like being a Catholic, people at church leave you alone to pray and think before and after Mass. Socialization happens in the parish center, not in the church. I also prefer going to Mass alone so that I can really focus on the Scripture, prayers, songs, and of course the Real Presence of Jesus in the eucharist.

Personally, I think it's perfectly normal. I prefer to pray to God when I'm in solitude, inside the walls of my own home, than when I go to church. Though it's a good thing to visit church once in a while, I don't think it plays a major role in your faith. You may be just as faithful as the next person who devoutly goes to church. In the end, it's what's inside that matters.

Its perfectly normal. A relationship with Jesus is personal and spending time one on one is always a good thing. You don't have to go to church... the assembly of saints/believers can be with friends and family in your own home...

We develop our relationship with Him one on one. This is normal, just as with any other relationship. However, we also need the fellowship of other Christians. None of us is ready for what I call "the solitary combat of the desert". There will come times in your spiritual journey when you will need the help and support of others. You will need someone who can 'discern the spirits', etc. God did not mean for us to travel totally alone, we need both solitude with Him and community time.

I practice my faith the same way. I do not conform to any religion of church, just God. I never could feel the presence of God in my life till I pulled away from religion and church
