The war has been politicized. We had very real reasons to go into Iraq. I feel we have overstayed. We are also fighing with obsolete tactics and for a fuzzy goal.
As to the core of your question. People in the military often join because they believe in the US. Believe we are good people and that while we have our faults most of what we do is good and or honorable purposes.
As for danger zone. The whole world is a danger zone now. Did the folks in the WTC or the African embassies or the aircraft terrorists have blown up think they were in a war zone? Did the Brits and Spanish blown to bits in recent years live in a "danger zone"? It's not like a traditional war. At home or Iraq, we are all in danger. Pulling out of Iraq won't change that. Won't make people safer here, it'll actually make it more dangerous here. We had our chance to leave Iraq with honor and didn't take it. Now we have to create a new window to leave with honor. Anything else will just encourage an already rabid enemy.
One thing I think you really should understand. These people hate you. Not for any reason other than that you and I exist. There is no placicating them. We cannot reason with them. It's not Bush, it's not soldiers. If your American they hate you. They will kill you then celibrate your death. Supporting thier causes or attacking thier enemies will not save you. Will not help you. Will not buy you mercy.
Understand also that neither political party is taking this serious. Niether value your life and they play with it for thier own personal enrichment. Electing Democrats just changes the face of the person who is putting you personally in danger. Nevermind the soldiers, at least they have weapons and can defend themselves. You, me and everybody else in America will soon be in more danger than they are currently. That will happen whether we leave Iraq tomorrow or never.

Why ask a question if you have already drawn a " conclusion"???
They fight and die on foreign land to keep our country and its people safe ...
US military are not children, they know that battles are bloody but a necessity IF the enemy is determined to kill and destroy ....
Their families "support" them because they recognize LOVE ...they would rather stop an enemy BEFORE they can get close enough to kill that which they hold dear....
They serve so that ALL US families can hope that they will NEVER have to face the carnage of war in their own back yard..
--No one ever wants to see anyone they love in danger!! Danger is a fact of life. Failure to recognize danger is about as stupid as the ostrich that buries his head in the sand -
The US military and all the others who SERVE ( firefighters, policemen etc) are the reason that humanity has managed to exist this long...
You and I sleep without fear BECAUSE these very special individuals step up and say "I will face the danger because I would rather die than run or stand idley by as others,(my wife, kids, friends, parents, the old, the orphaned ), die...
-Nobody in the military EVER gets rich, their families dont get the best schools, the name brand clothes, the moves to new places always cost more than before, things like music lessons, dentists/braces,sports teams/uniforms are all only maybes if theres any "extra $"
The military and those that serve are what keeps America ...America. We should all be more mindful of what these families give-up !A thank you is less than adequate but always appreciated.
YOU might want to Look at the USA eagle ..it carries arrows and an olive branch....It 's a clear message:
we prefer peace and harmony yet we will defend our liberty with force.
......"Vigilance is the price of freedom"....
hindsight is of no value if you are the poor victim of the next 9/11

Maybe because they have a DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE on the war. Maybe not everyone agrees with you that it's a sham. Do you ever consider that? MAYBE THEY DON'T AGREE WITH YOU. Maybe they think we are doing a GOOD THING.
I'm undecided on the war, but I have the decency to respect the opinions of soldiers and their families who think we are doing the right thing, and not just sending them off to die for no reason. Maybe that's true and maybe it's not - but you need to understand that some people MIGHT not feel the same way you do, and MAYBE - just maybe - the soldiers serving in Iraq know a little more about the war than a whiney little schmuck slunched over a computer screen like you does.

"By now everyone knows that the war is a sham and we shouldn't be there" is not correct. I agree with your view of it, but it isn't true that everyone does. Some people still believe America (and its disgustingly obsequious little ally John Howard representing, to my shame, Australia) should be there, or even if it was wrong at first it's necessary to stay to try to repair the damage now. And so they're willing to pay the sacrifice of either being there themselves or having friends and family there.
Assuming everyone agrees with the majority view, or with what seems obvious, is an error.

Your statement is representative of your values, and not that of the brave and patriotic Americans who are fighting for your rights. The Americans you speak of have a greater understanding of the war and why they are fighting than you do and are not cowards.
This is a quality you may never come to understand, but it would be nice if you could just say thank you and leave it at that.

Because that is what being a part of the military is. Not deciding which wars you are willing to fight in. You sign up to serve as needed. I have many friends and family enlisted in the armed forces. I pray each day for their safety. But, I support them because they are doing what they signed up to do. You dont' get to pick and choose your assignments. You fight for your country. You do what you are called upon to do. You go home when you can. I support the SERVICEMEMBERS!!! Regardless of which branch they serve in.

One of the main reasons for being there is to curb the takeover of terrorists. The main problem is getting the Iraqis to follow through in their stand to defend themselves due to fear, indifference and the insurgencies influence. In all war there are body counts, but the legacy the soldiers leave gives life to freedom. They should be honored accordingly.

Because, we are there and that is that. At the moment, our soldiers ARE in Iraq fighting for something. Maybe its not what we thought we were fighting for but either way, we are the good guys and they are the bad guys. Some people are as scared as you and are willing to risk their lives and their family's lives to make other people happy.

First of all, they probably DO believe that there is some sort of purpose for this war (other than making the rich richer...and winnowing down the middle and lower classes).
And, secondly, how could a person possibly admit that their loved one was half a world away, risking life and limb for NOTHING???

I have two best friends in Iraq as civilians...do I agree with the war...no...I do however believe in them and support them. In my case it is two different things...I support them but not the war.
