My co workers and I have been trying to figure out what in the world this saying is talking about. I know it means you are stupid but WHY? What does your butt and a hole in the ground have to do with each other?? I've looked on the internet but can't find anything about it. Thanks :)

Both are holes. I don't think it comes from anywhere. It's supposed to indicate that a person is stupid. They don't know one hole from the other.
