If the US military were to start up the draft and I were selected could I get out of it by telling them that I'm gay? And if so would they need some kind of proof? Or would they draft me anyway?

They're probably not going to draft again simply because the question is....what about women? If they didn't draft women it would be insulting. But they couldn't just choose women at random because of the whole mother thing. It's a sticky situation.

The last time the US had a draft, during the war in Vietnam, being gay - as it is today - exempted anyone from serving. There are several instances however of the draft board not believing drafted soldiers who admitted being gay. It's likely you'd need more information than simply claiming to be gay. What? I don't know. Maybe polaroids.

First, it is very unlikely that the US would start the draft again. But if they did being gay is not a means of being exempt, every male at 18 years of age has to sign up just in case a draft is enacted.

Theres a law called "No ask No tell" and it says that if they do ask what your sexual orientation is you can refuse to tell them and if you tell them they have to have some type of proof.

The common misunderstanding that proof is that you have to kiss a male. This is untrue. The proof is several people in the community that can testify that it is a known fact that you are homosexual. These people cannot be your friends or family, but just acquaintances, collieges, etc who know this as common knowledge.

This will be an interesting situation if the draft is ever reinstated (which more than likely it will not be). During the Draft during the Viet Nam War, there were some draftee's that did voluntarily state that they were homosexual. They were taken into the military, and when they got caught in a homosexual act, they were dismissed from military service, with a discharge code that indicated they were discharged for homosexuality. When the Army especially tried to give other than honorable discharges for homosexual conduct, all they had to do was tell them that they told them about their orientation before they were drafted.

some historians imagine we've already had one...James Buchanan, fifteenth President, and regrettably as a precedent for the gay community, extremely likely the worst president we've ever had. yet heck, if a candidate is hard yet not stupid on protection, has an answer for the the monetary device, is familiar with what to do about unlawful immigration, can honestly and extremely reduce waste and fraud contained in the authorities, and has a respectable experience of ethics and private morality (which a good number of "immediately" presidents like Clinton and Kennedy were a touch short on), he's were given my vote, black or white, guy or woman, tall or short, and immediately or gay. and that i'm a immediately, rural, white western male who even as not extremely non secular, takes position to count number on God, and hasn't ever voted for a Democratic candidate for President (yet have not continually voted Republican both).

I guess you'll just have to wait and see what any new law says. There is no draft now, so it's not an issue. If they re-instate the draft, they'll have to work out all those details. Politically, a draft is not going to happen.

I think that it wouldn't matter. If it got to the point that the draft came back, I don't see how being gay could keep someone out of service. To many people would try that route. Now if they did allow it, you would have to prove it I'm sure.

For one thing don't flatter yourself. There are more gay men and women in the armed services than you can imagine.

But Yes, if you want to raise enough hell about it and are afraid to serve your country. Say you are gay and they will set you free.

The gay men and women in the service are in the closet and are proud to serve. Yet, people in this country have no respect for these people simply because they are gay.
