I went through the same thing, im in my second year of college now, my parents nor i had saved up money (it was impossible). however, i was told since i was young that grades, and school, will get me places. i was 13 and 14 once, i know school at that age is boring. but just make sure you tell them. i was pushed very young to get good grades, and i did. GOOD GRADES=GOOD SCHOLARSHIPS!!! wow, seriously colleges will pay alot more money now for good grades than sports...SERIOUSLY!!!, but if they dont get good grades, there are always plenty of financial aid opportunities. they will have to start off at a community college, but really, its better. its cheaper, the government pays, for 2 years of community college, and then when they get their associates. they can get a good job, and pay for university themselves, but like i said, GOOD GRADES!! they wont have to pay as much in the University if they get good grades in community college. and then there are the pell grants, that pay for books, tuition, classes. EVERYTHING!!! it takes a load off parents shoulders. my classes are paid for, plus i get an extra 1,250 to buy laptops, gas, car. whatever for school. Oh yeah :) there are more scholarships ( DONT PAY AS MUCH) but different businesses in different areas award many scholarships, like being a minority, or working for them. i know the boys and girls club, awards the "CIT" counselor in training, and the employees under 18 who are on their way to college soon scholarships for being helpful, positive, and caring! simple things like that can give your children a bright future!!

They can apply for financial aid, scholarships & grants. As well in our state we have a dollar for dollar matching state savings fund, you can put 20 dollars a month in up to 500 to be matched, the only glitch is they have to go to a collage or university within the state & it can not be private

Scholarships and student loans. Make sure they get jobs at 16 like I did. Build up as much as you can and loan for the rest. Take advantage of any other public money you can.

How about if they want to go to college, they find a way to pay for it. That's what I had to do. Plus, it helps them stay focused. If they have to pay for everything, they tend to drink less and study more.
