Hey..listen to what that dentist said..because if it is an abscess it can be life threatening if untreated..I had a little cousin die on Christmas morning from one..Also my mom had an abscess tooth pulled and it just so happens she was sick at the same time..well about 2 weeks later she started having headaches and wasn't feeling well and then she started having seizures..After about 1 week of tests in a hospital a very smart neurosurgeon cut her skull from ear to ear and discovered a brain abscess...well he scraped most of the infection off and put her head back together and put her on IV antibiotics for 6 months..It took her well over a year to fully recover and she still after 4 yrs. isn't the same mom she used to be..
I am not trying to scare you..i just don't ever want anyone to go through what she did..it was horrible!!
I did a-lot of research back then on brain abscess and it can be caused by many different things but basically it takes 2 or more types of bacteria to meet and then travel to your brain my moms was caused by an abscess tooth and a lung infection!
Don't ever let a dentist pull an abscess tooth without a full course of antibiotics..most won't but then you get these wack jobs like my moms dentist.
If you can't get in to see a dentist at least go to your family doctor and get antibiotics until you can see a dentist..
Please take care!!!!!! check out this site for abscess tooth and brain abscess

its a gum boil.. Does it look like a tiny crater?
Use a salene solution (Salt & water solution) to clear the bacteria & heal the sore. There are medications you can get from a pharmacy which will clear it up quickly. I dont think it came from not brushing for a day.

Yes, it's likely a canker sore or ulceration. Avoid salty and sour foods for a while. Try not to tongue it too much. Salty and sour foods, as well as tonguing it too much will slow the healing process and increase your discomfort.
If, after about a month it's still not gone, or, if it increases to more than three times in size, consult a dentist, as this may be an infected ulceration or a precursor to oral cancer.

it sounds like a canker sore. It will have to go away by itself. Usually one to 2 weeks.
