Ok, I'm a preschool teacher. I would suggest to ask your child to make a cute hand made card for the teachers and sign their name, do a cute little picture! The teachers will love that.
If you want to buy a gift, gift certificates are usually most appreciated.......Starbucks, Target, Borders Books.....somewhere like that. It doesn't have to be for much, just $10, esp if it is Starbucks, that will buy a few coffees or tea's.
In your card write a kind word or two, how you APPRECIATE them! Teachers LOVE to hear that! I always keep such lovely cards I get from parents and kids!
I wouldn't say candles, we get so many of those!
ps, I LOVE the Dunkin Donuts answer suggested above!

I've baked bread for my kid's teachers. Gift cards seem like they've always been a good idea. I have 3 friends who are teachers and they all have told me that they get a LOT (too many) of Christmas decorations. I really like the gift cards for Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks idea. I'll keep that in mind =-)
The teachers deserve the gifts though. I was given some great advice about gift giving right before my 1st son went into kindergarten. A friend told me to never forget the school secretary. She is the one that everyone forgets.
It's her that has to call you if your child is sick. She is one that you have to talk to if you're child is going to be late or if they forgot they're lunch. It's just the best if you're on a first name basis in a good way. I've always taken them a little gift and tried my best to be super duper nice.
Just being a "Bossy Moms" advice =-)

I like the ideas of baking something for the teachers, or even those homemade jar mixes with recipes, something like that is a cute, simple idea. Maybe along with it something handmade by the child. Or as someone else suggested, supplies for teaching that can be used in the class room. I think ANY gift a teacher would be greatful for because you aren't obligated to get them one and they'll just be greatful that you are thinking of them. I know I would be.

As a mother of a preschooler and teacher a great gift idea is a nice card saying "thank you" . They are always special. Other things are:
*a movie night bag (gift card to blockbuster, popcorn, candy...) you could also give movie theatre tickets.
*Dunkin Donuts gift certificate in a coffee mug
The gift certifcates could be $5.00...it's the thought that counts!!!
Just please stay away from trinkets!!!
