Like any large organization, they represent the views of many members, and their positions change slowly. As a result, they are often slow to keep up with new information. Don't rely entirely on their advice, but do your own research, and most important of all: determine what diet works for your body, since we're all different.

people eat way more than they need and then don't get enough exercise to counteract what they have eaten...this is what leads to obesity. The guidelines that they recommend is what everyone should follow to live a healthier life.
