I agree... it's sensationalistic and it's disgusting how the movie studios, men who exist in their field to make money, set their sights on making money from Christians and they knew how to do it. The marketing materials, free screenings for ministers so they'd guide their flock to see the movie too.

For those saying "Read the bible, it's true." I also read Harry Potter and saw the movie... does that mean Harry Potter really happened, too? Same logic, different outcome. Funny.

yeah! you are exactly right! so gruesome indeed!
Even without any medical consultations actually. Losing 2-3 liters of blood...supposedly already in shock and in hospital at that condition... and yet standing erect in the crowd facing his mortal judgement ???
The story in the bible (aside from punishing Jesus), was shown abstractly that if you are unfamiliar with the bible, you won`t really understand the scenes shown. I pity those viewers who haven`t read or not too familiar with the bible (they will need interpreter of every scene.)
...And what was left to their memory (is not the reason why Jesus Christ have to sacrifice that way) but how He was brutally punished by the Romans...
NOT an effective movie for God`s holiness actually. Just another directorial kind of movie debut for Mel Gibson.
...But, I owe Mel Gibson the ingenuity of showing perfectly..... How evil/satan influence the people of going against God`s word.
Did you see and understand how evil told everyone to CRUCIFY the Son of God?
This is also how evil will influence you and everybody to taste his greatest temptations on earth, so that...ALL of us will get lost on our way in going back to the Almighty Father to claim our everlasting happiness with HIM.

The justice system in Rome was brutal. Crucifiction was common.
Even some of their coliseum entertainment was brutal.

Many things people do to other people are disgusting, even to this day.

People still sacrifice others (for some perceived common good). You just have to observe the behavior of people in many govermnent and corporate offices to watch how it works.

Herod was threatened by Jesus. The members of the Sandedrin were threatened by Jesus.

I'm going to disagree with you because it brought to visual reality what Christ went through in those final hours. The movie was very well researched.

I know that not everyone likes every movie, and you don't have to like it. But there are a lot of us who are glad the movie was made.

It was disgusting but it is true. The fact of rape is disgusting and gruesome but still true. All Hollywood versions sanitized Roman cruelty to spare our sensitivities. It really happened.Crucifixion and the prequel to it were most cruel.Magna est veritas (Truth is powerful)

It was worse then what the movie showed, much much worse. In fact Mel Gibson even edited out alot of footage because it was really bad. Praise be to God for sending His Son to die for our sins. Would you do the same for another?

The only thing that confused me was why didn't they tell the reason Jesus came to earth. It was to teach others of his father and to die for our sins.
He had to die...and one more thing...the jews did not accept Jesus as the Messiah...they are still waiting....even in the face of prophesy and the calander...counting backwards to the day of his birth...and then from his birth they count forward.

I think it was a good movie. I didnt unerstand why didn't they rip Jesus beard or the sponge thing? They didnt talk about the purpose of Jesus but it was good

Well I believed that it probably happened something close to that in history. I mean the Romans were vicious with their punishment. But the movie was a bad choice to be made.
