In California I'm pretty sure it's legal. I had one for years. You could always just call the police station and ask.

It is not illegal to purchase a police scanner, but in many jurisdictions it is illegal to have it installed and operating in your car. Which makes one wonder how it is that news crews turn up on the scene of an emergency as fast as (or sometimes faster than) police cruisers?

It is illegal to have a portable scanner in a vehicle. It would give an individual access to info as to whether the crime has been reported and how much time that person may have to escape before police arrived.

Depends on the law per the state. However if you are a licenced radio operator you can use a scanner in your car in any state.

i cant vouch for every state, but here in nc its legal...because that information that is broadcasted is public info. i listen to it on my pc everyday

I DONT THINK IT IS THEY(SOME STORES) SELL THEM SO Y WOULD IT BE BUT ID CHECK WITH LOCAL POLICE DEPT TO MAKE SURE LOL
