It will take on average 6 months to heal, but up to a year. Generally you are not supposed to change jewelry during the healing time.
So depending on how you heal, when the pain goes down, when crust stops forming and there are no signs of keloids or abscess you should be able to change the jewelry after 4 months, but if you are unsure you should wait. Never use cheap jewelry or improper jewelry and you'll be fine. If you have trouble with removal or replacing the jewelry, local piercers will be happy to help. Good luck to you.

When I got it done, my piercer told me that it should stay in for eight months to one year. I trust him completely so I still have yet to change it. When he did my naval two years ago, I left it in for a year before chaging it and I have had no problems with it what so ever. It's always better to leave it in for a longer amount of time rather than a shorter amount. If you take it out too soon you'll risk irritating the piercing which could potentially become infected. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!

You should wait for it to be fully healed before taking out the barbell/ring. This should take several months. If you change it too soon, you can get harmful bacteria inside and prolong the healing process.
It sucks, but it is just better to be safe than sorry.

2-3 months or longer, it depends on how you heal. If you feel comfortable changing it, then maybe you can. If you are not sure, then you should ask your piercer, so they can see how you are healing and if you can change it. :)
