I don't exactly know how you could stop it but the fact that the skin on your lips are peeling like that could mean you need to drink more fluids but that's just a guess.
One thing you could try is that when you find yourself picking you could try to figure out what lead up to it. What were you thinking--feeling? It could be a habit linked to a specific emotion, most likely anxiety. If it is, then try to figure out what's making you so nervous and look to face that problem. This picking could be an indicator for something going on in your head.
Just an opinion, but give it a shot.

Transfer the habit to something harmless like carrying a soft silicone ball or toy - when you get the urge to pick at your lip pick on the toy instead - do not look in mirrors -
If you can afford Hypnotherapy it may help you break the habit but go to a license therapist for this.
I went to a licensed Psychologist who was a hypnotherapist and he helped me a lot.

try to have a Lipbalm with you at all times, so during the day put some on whenever you like to pick your lips. Maybe it helps, it will in one way keep you lips smooth. If not try chewing gum so you don't think of it so much. good Luck

i used to have that bad habit too! u have to keep ur lips moisturize so it wont start peeling. buy a huge jar of vaseline for home and keep it by ur side at all time. everytime u feel like ur lips are drying or peeling, quickly spread some vaseline on ur lips.
when ur out, use a soothing moisturizing lip balm or chapstick. i use lip smacker lip balm in pink lemonade. also, put on lip gloss because u wouldn't want ur hands to get into a goopy mess would u?
good luck! :]

I agree on the hypnosis. I would also put a thick layer of chapstick on it to heal it and prevent you from finding a piece of skin to pull. Gosh, you are going to get an infection or make your lip look deformed.

Buy some of that cheap vaseline lip stuff. And use it ALL the time. Constantly. You will be less likely to pick if your lips are all greasy, and the moisture will do them good.

if you can go 21 days without giving in to your habit you'll probably never do it again, or at least not all the time. try wearing lipstick or lip gloss. you won't want to mess up the way it looks and will be less likely to bite your lip.

Just try using blistex anytime you feel the urge to pick at it. Keep it around in a purse or your pocket. You might feel like your using a lot of it, but the medicated tube kind really works.
