I have a prom coming up in about 3 weeks, and I don't want to dye my hair (they banned us from doing it here, so lame), I want just highlight certain areas. How can I do this without dying my whole head. My hair is dark-dark brown, so what color would anyone recommend?

Can't afford to go to a salon right now, and even if I did, we don't have one in this hick town that knows how to deal with my kind of hair.
I live where I go to school at, and a bunch of girls dyed their hair black and messed up the showers. Screwed it up for everybody.

I use African Pride Highlights (runs about $10). This kit comes with everything you need and easy instructions for perfect highlight. (the kit is so easy to use anyone can do it) I have dark brown hair also and I've tried egyptian clay (which is a sandy red color) and serengeti gold (which is the color I have now). There are alot of other colors to choose from and what you see on the box is what you get. If you would like to see my hair you can email me and I'll send a picture.

yes you can buy highlighting kits at your local walmart with easy step to do it at home. As far as what color to highlight it, I think about a light or medium brown. Since your hair is dark you don't want to do any type of blond highlight because you will turn it Orange. I know because i've done it before. Hope this helps you.

The school told you that you couldn't dye your hair? You have got to be kidding! Is that even legal?!?!

I would go to a salon for highlights. You can by the kits, but you have to have someone do it for you. And you may not like the results. Go to a salon.

You can buy highlighting kits at walmart and places like that, but I would recommend a blond color in your hair not really blond just blond enough so it looks like natural highlights.
