"East of Eden" by John Steinbeck made me question religion and spirituality and even 10 years after first reading this book I'm still studying world religions and really introspective on why I hold the beliefs that I do. It's a great book that shows how the translations of the Bible can totally skew someone's view of religion, and even very simple variations of words can completely change the meaning of a Biblical passage.

The best book I brought and read and still have today is:
Bucklands Complete book of Witchcraft.
I brought this book when I was 25,
It was my start out in finding the answers that plagued me though the years.
I was scared to buy the book at first..
Feeling I might be doing something evil or wrong, by just reading a book.
As I didn’t know much about witchcraft back then..
This book opened my eyes to so many answers, it made me feel easy about different beliefs / Religions, without putting them down or bagging them to death.
It was easy to read and understand, seeing I had no understanding of witchcraft or what it was or meant.
I look back now at the age of 38. How I was scared to buy this book.
But at the same time everything I did pointed to getting this book and learning the truth behind Witchcraft the Religion..
It was the best thing I did..
It has opened me up to be a more spiritually and I feel im a better Person over all in my life.
I am glad I brought this book.. It has had its influence on who I am today.
Blessings

I think the best book I've read has been the Random House College Dictionary.
Next to that, I'd say Ulysses, by James Joyce.
Third, and I won't go farther than this, the Trilogy of the Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Yes, they all did influence me. My friends say I'm a walking encyclopedia. And the LotR and Ulysses have some interesting ideas, values, material for discussion and thought.

Swan Song by Robert McCammeron. It was written in 1986. I started readinit on Sept. 12, 2001. The first chapter described the fall of Afganistan, a president who was the son of a former president, a point of no return airplane pilot, and then went on to tell the story of the destruction of the world by war caused by the USA prez setting off a nuke. oh sh*t! I started reading it the day after the towers went down and even though it was 15 years old it was like reading about now. it was intense. I was sooooooo scared, because it was like a prophecy and a lot of what the book described has happened!

How to win friends and influence people, Dale Carnegie. Has a great impact on my daily dealings with others. Always recommend it as a must reading for kids growing up, to prepare them better. And if everyone practices what's being preached in the book, trust me, it will be a truly beautiful world.

Wow, that's tough. I would have to say that one of my top five is The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. It's just an amazing story -- one that's really, really long and you never want it to end because it's so dang GOOD. (I also just read Amazing Gracie by Dan Dye, and it was a great read. Very humorous and touching.
I almost forgot the last part of your question. I was influenced by The Witching Hour -- I named my firstborn daughter Rowan after the main character! (Rowan was a witch in the book, but she was also a surgeon and she used her powers only to heal people.) ......Amazing Gracie made me feel more tender towards my dog. Don't know why.....I already love him very much.

Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker
Amazing story. Something of a sequel to The Color Purple (also amazing) if you are familiar.

I have read alot of books, but the ones that always stay in mind are books by Nora Roberts all her "...IN DEATH" series but she writes under J.D.ROBB they are based in the near future and the main character is a women cop Eve who gets involved with Roarke, a suspect in her latest murder case. But passion and seduction have rules all their own.
some titles are:
Holiday In Death
Vengeance In Death
Ceremony In Death
Immortal In Death
and a lot more, it would be better to read them in order.
