The more aged the woman the more status she received for the accumulation of wisdom she possessed to be shared with the younger members of the group. It was easier to remember and easier for the listener to believe if the lesson was offered in the form of a story,fable, or tale with the lesson being the logical outcome . Hence the term " Old wives's Tale" though now it's meaning is; a story of questionable truth.
