as a devout Christian and Catholic young adult I don't know how I can help and one of my acquaintances from church recently told me he didn't believe in God. He continually brings it up so I know he doesn't want to be atheist and he cares, but what can I do to help him?

If he is truly interested in knowing God, but just doesn't think it makes sense, I'd suggest buying a couple of books for him. Both of these books were written by former atheists who set out to prove that there wasn't a God. In their research and pursuit to disprove any God, they found that the evidence was overwhelming in favor of a God, and that was the God of the Bible.

The first book is by Josh McDowell and is called "More Than A Carpenter". This is a short book that can be read in 1 sitting (2 hours) and cost about $5 at most any bookstore.

The second is by C.S. Lewis and is called "Mere Christianity". This book can be found at most any bookstore, however, this is a larger book and may take a little bit longer to read.

Either of these 2 books will get your friend a logical reason to believe that the God of the Bible has to be true, and that your friend can have the confidence that he does not have to "Check his brain in at the door" if he decides to become a Christian.

You may even want to read the books at the same time, and get together after each chapter to discuss what it means. This would be a great benefit to you, and would open up the opportunity to share more about Jesus with him.

sara s,
Become as learned about Jesus as you can. Learn about being Reformed, or a part of the "Reformed" part of Christianity, sometimes called Protestant. In that, if you pursue it properly, you will find yourself leaning more towards the scriptures and less on the RCC dogma which is polluted with pagan ritual and meanings. The scripture, you will find, refutes Catholocism.

You may then find out that God has plenty of time for you, more than you have for Him, because you must sleep, and He never sleeps. Thus, the leanings towards praying to idols. and false prayer, which is one of the forms of worship, the prayers to saints is also a false thing to so AND a Satanic thing to do.

You may find that praying God through Jesus IS the only way, and that you can trust Him to do EXACTLY what He says He will do.

You MAY also find that God's Spirit will live in you, and change you according to His plan, and then you will be guided to do whatever it is that He will have you do, especially lead others to Him. But that's why I went into this in the first place, because God guides you IF you have His Spirit in you, into the works that He will have you do. They are not church bound rituals based upon pagan practices. Like the Roman Catholic Church.

Use these Scriptures:

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

Tell them about Jesus. Explain to them that we are all sinners, and being sinners, we deserve to go to Hell. But Jesus came to earth to die for our sins, and to give us eternal life. Share some Bible verses with him.

Jesus said we should go out and spread the message. Do that with your friend, give him the message, but in the end, it's the Holy Spirit that will lead him to God.

Show him the love of God. When he's ready, he'll ask.

Give him time. Don't push him or threaten Hell; this tactic never works.
