my caregiver works 5 days a week...8 hours a day. i pay her under the table. is there an acceptable percent of her weekly pay i should give her for christmas? someone told me to give her a week's pay for her christmas gift, but that's more than i spend on my whole family.

I just read an article about this in Parenting magazine, they suggest giving no less than one days pay! A week seems a bit excessive, you are a family not a corporation! : ) Since she is full time perhaps the days pay and some homemade (or homemade looking ; ) treats in a basket should be more than enough and send the message that you really thought about her during the holidays!

I would think a crisp 50 dollar bill in a thoughtfully written out card would be great. The writing will mean a lot to her and the 50 dollars is money she won't be expecting. If you don't want to give her cash, you could give her a gift certificate to a salon for hair and nails, a spa for a massage or a store/mall gift certificate. I am sure whatever you choose will be much appreciated.

How about 25 bucks, and a plate of homemade cookies? Or buy a small gift (like a wallet) and slip some money in it. Or, you could buy her a Christmas ham and a gift certificate for a spa or a favorite restaurant.

i would give her 50-100 bucks that is about how much she would get with a job outside the house. The 100 is about half the amount of a bonus check that my husband gets from his boss. I would just give her what you can afford if you can not afford that much put it in a christmas card she will appriciate it because you have thought of her and appriciated what she is doing for you.
GOOD LUCK

depending how much you can afford but no more then 50$ and a x-mass card.
I think a nice x-mass card and a little something is ok.
An idea would be a x-mass card and a (gift certificate) 30 minutes massage from a pro.

Every worker needs money on occassions for celebrations. They must be expecting bonus from you.

You are the best judge of your own. You decide, how much you can afford and how you can make her happy for her Christmas celebrations.

Don't give her money. Make it a little more appreciative than that. Buy her a pedicure or a massage. She obviously works hard and would appreciate the effort more than how much you paid.
