I am looking to acquire a new kitty and saw both of the above breeds at a Pet Expo on the weekend. I fell in love with both of them and have spent the morning researching the personalities of each cat, still unable to make a decision on which would be right for us. My partner and I have no children (but plan to eventually), an 8-year old golden retriever and a 12 month old DSH cat. I adore cats and love spending as much time with them as I can, although me & my partner both work full time. Does anyone own either of the above cats? Can anyone make a recommendation as to which one would be better?

I would suggest you contact a breed specific rescue for each breed of cat. The people involved know the breeds very well and more importantly know each individual cat very well and will be more than happy to find you the best cat for you and your family.

Gosh, I see your problems - I've just had a look at personalities online too - Birman will thrive in multi-pet family households & Norwegian Forest Cats get on really well with dogs. Personality wise both seem like they would fit in well with you & your family.
If you've no preference to colour or pattern & don't care whether those eyes that stare lovingly into yours are blue, green or topaz, why not contact a few breeders of both sorts in your area & chat with them ... maybe you could chose one breed by the friendliest, most helpful breeder? ... or maybe you could base it on the which kittens are available in the time period that you have holidays & time to introduce your new young one into your house & to your dog & cat?
Wouldn't it be wonderful though to have one of each?
