If dogs have a stomach ache they often eat the grass to make themselves throw up so that they will feel better. The same goes with humans, if someone has a bad enough stomach ache they might try to make themself throw up to alleviate the nausea.

Dogs and cats both do better when their diets are the same... So if your dog does better on the bland diet you need to stick with that if possible. There are options your vet could help you with. The reason they eat the grass is often because it causes vomiting and some thing this is one of the ways the self-medicate when something is wrong, and usually the first culprit is the diet.
First, make sure the dog gets NO PEOPLE FOOD and then the best option is to get a bland diet from your vet or pet store and if that works STICK WITH IT. Changing back and forth between foods is BAD especially for an animal with a sensitive stomach.
If this continues you should, if you haven't already, consult your vet, it could be a symptom of a bigger problem.
Good luck...

That is the dogs instincts kicking in. When dogs have a stomach ache they do eat grass. They eat it to help them throw up and calm there stomach ache. Don't worry, it is a natural thing. The grass helps with there upset bellies.

When dogs eat grass it is because they do not feel well. It is like us taking gravel or advil or something. Yes, and when they do eat it they do throw up. It is the food that is not agreeing with him. I would HIGHLY reccomend to feed your dog "GO!" dog food. It is in a blue and silver package, very shiny. It is around $60 for a big bag(the biggest) and it lasts a long time. You cant get it at like Cosco or places like that, only like Bosleys and pet stores- greeat ones :o). I would try that and then e-mail me and see how it goes. Um other than that oh yes.... after your dog eats and/or before he is most probibly way too excited. Dont get him so hyped up, or make sure he doesnt make himself that way either! :o)
My e-mail is (for help etc., and let me know now GO! goes):

I think, and it is just an observation, not to be considered gospel, that this is a normal activity in dogs, and is not thought to mean anything. In humans, eating things (like ice) that aren't ordinarily meant to be eaten, is called pica, and usually means the person is deficient in some vitamin or mineral. Whether this applies to dogs, I don't know.
My dogs have always eaten grass, and seem to be fine, with no ill effects noticed.
When you consider some of the things dogs eat, a little grass should be nothing to them.

A dog will eat grass when they have an upset stomach and throwing up is a way to get rid of whatever upset him. If this keeps happening, go to a Vet, he might get dehydrated.

when dogs eat poisonous stuff that will hurt them, they will chew up grass, swallow it and then throw it all out so that they can get rid of the poison. they do not eat grass so they throw it up. the food u give him might not be to his liking or hurts him. try to change his food. if this continues, u should bring it to the vet for a check.

Dogs eat grass for a reason, not because they like grass...They eat grass out of instinct when they are sick to their stomach. If this continues, take your dog to a vet ...do not wait, there is something wrong with doggie. It may be his food, it may be worms, it may be something worse. don't wait to find out if this continues. good luck

I think you should keep using the blan diet...otherwise your dog will keep getting sick..I have a cat that always gets hairballs so I gave him a remedy and it works so I still give the remedy to him.

Dogs do this when they are feeling a bit sick to make them throw up and make them feel better. This could be from the food he is eating or maybe some plant in the back yard etc... so check out that. If the problem still goes on for another week or so please go to your nearest vet to find out
