thats a good step in wanting to turn it over to God. God can deal with our problems. you just need a little help right now. so maybe the medication can help you in this process. you can take them while you are learning. i used to be so opposed to taking anti depressants or other such meds. but now i am on lexapro and it has helped me so much. now my relationship with God has grown because i am not so focused on the problems that i am facing with my anxiety and depression.

You're asking a spiritual question, and you're asking for a spiritual answer, and I'm going to give you one -- well, a partially spiritual one.
Spirituality is a very personal thing, and I'll tell you how I see it:
God helps those who help themselves.
In other words, if no amount of prayer can ward off your panic attacks, then you need to be seeing a medical professional regarding this.
If you do choose to take the Lexapro that you have, please note that it may take up to 8 weeks (though generally around 4) before you start to see solid results. Once your brain is in the proper state, then you can put your mind and soul in that direction, also. There is the possibility that you will have to be on the medication for a very long time; even if you do, you may still find that biological peace will help you in your relationship with God.
I am bipolar (and by bipolar, I mean I have a genuine, long-standing neurological disorder), and will freely admit that I am on medications for it. Because I am now "level-headed", I can now work on being a better person; now that I have helped myself, I am hoping that God helps me in turn.
[EDITED TO ADD: lynn8953, I promise you that was a strange coincidence and that I did not copy your words! :-) ]

god worked through man to develop these medications and it sounds like you really need to take them. it is through no fault of your own that you need the meds, it is a chemical imbalance in your system. the panic attacks could be from stopping the paxil abruptly rather than tapering off the paxil. lexapro is a newer drug with fewer side effects than some other medications. talk honestly with your doctor about your history and any side effects you are experiencing. remember god called your doctor into the helping profession to help aliveate the pain and god gave your doctor the talents to do so.

Well, I am not GOD, so, I cannot speak for him, but, I do know that alot of doctors happen to be christians as well. So, rest assured that perhaps they can help you. Take the medication, if the side effects are worse than the panic attacks and headaches, then, do not take it, but, weigh your options. You have a disease, a problem within your body, the medicine helps to correct the side effects of this disease and it works. Trust in that. I'm not particularly....religious....persay, but, I do think that if GOD put people on the planet and taught them how to help people in need, that it is not such a bad thing to rely on such people. Don't you? I wish you the best of luck.

Paxil is a very old drug with many associated side effects. Lexapro is a much better choice. You need to place your faith in a good shrink: why don't you listen to him/her? If you don't like the one you have now then keep looking. There are many good ones to choose from. God wants you mentally stable; not nutty as a fruitcake. You're not doing anyone any good, LEAST of all yourself.

Maybe God's help comes in the form of modern medicine. Stopping an SSRI suddenly can cause you to crash, to pendulum to the other extreme, and it sounds like this is happening to you. You need to wean yourself off of Paxil gradually and start your lexapro. Depression and anxiety have physical causes, like diabetes, and can be treated medically. If you had diabetes, would you stop your meds and expect God to cure you?

Maybe you should see a psychologist for Panic Control Therapy. It generally yields the best results and will cut out the medication. They will teach you to not overreact to bodily sensations and help lower the fear of having more panic attacks. Give it a try.

If you believe that God intended for you to suffer then stay off the medicine. If you believe that God is benevolent and loving and does not want his children in pain the take the medicine. That's why he gave us the ability to think and develope ways to help ourselves.
I too am bipolar as the person before described.

GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES
go back to the doctor--take the medication he has ordered you-how he ordered you to take it--thank god you live in a day where this type of medicine is available---you can't function daily if you keep having panic attacks
