I found out that I have an ear infection in both ears. My doctor prescribed me Augmentin XR antibiotics, and I have been taking them for about 2 days. Does anyone know how long it will be until I can hear normally again? The pain from the infection is gone-thank God-but my hearing is driving me nuts!
Thank you

Taking antibiotics for anything takes taking all of the medicine. . don't quit taking it just because the symptoms go away. . .take ALL of the medicine.
As you have already found out,in a day or two the pain is less but it will probably be towards the end of medicine taking before you can hear normally again.
Most antibiotics are given for 10 days and in some cases up to 14 days.
Keep in mind that when women take antibiotics,we are proned to getting yeast infections so you might want to discuss that possibility with your Dr and if you do acquire a yeast infection, you will need to have a prescription for that when you get through with the antibiotics.

First of all, do not stop taking the medication just because the pain is gone, alot of people make that mistake. Take it until it is gone, because if you don't, you could end up with a worse strain of the infection. Secondly, once the infection is gone, the fluids need to drain from your ears before you are able to hear fully again. It shouldnt take more than a few days, but, just keep an eye on it, and report anything unusual to your doctor. Hope you feel better.

It depends on how advanced the infection is, but it's gradual. Generally speaking it usually takes about 7-10 days, but the key thing to remember is even if you don't experience the symptoms anymore, keep taking the antibiotics until your finished, if not the infection wil return

Give it a couple more days, but take the full prescription of the antibiotics as prescribed. I get them 3-4 times each year.

Hi I am nurse, atbs usually kick in within 48-72 hours, but just because you feel better keep taking them for the full prescribed time frame.
