I was wondering if being a reserve deputy sheriff will require the same amount of training as being a full time deputy. I was also wondering if the application process is the same. Also will it be required to attend the same law enforcement academy as regular full time deputies.

In Texas, the same hours are required. Usually for reserve deputies, the academy's have a night class you can attend. You will go through the same background check, psychological evaluation and polygraph prior to being accepted into your dept's. academy. You will also be required to pass physical agility tests and in the academy, firearms training and testing. Good Luck!

I was one it was fun for a while but you are looked upon as just a reserve. Don't get me wrong they treat you well and you are respected but there is always that mentality that the regular deputies have against the reserves. I think they do not feel that you are 100 percent dedicated to becoming a deputy full time in my opinion.

Yes, Yes & Yes. The only thing you won't get is pay at the academy, benefits of any kind or set hours.. But, after you get the training you can get a full time position with another department easier.

In Arkansas, to be a reserve officer, you have to go through a about a 3 month class, 4 hrs. a night 2 or 3 times a week. You don't get paid, and you have to buy all your uniforms and duty gear and weapon. It's tough but I'm glad we have them. Good luck!

Yes, you go through the same screening process, and take the same training as a regular deputy. The only difference is the workload schedule.
