It'll be good. The original FB was a Chardonnay and the name is not only memorable, but it is meant as a reference to the very famous and expensive white Burgundy named Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru -- which is a Chardonnay.

The second wine from this operation was a red Shiraz which they called Utter Bast*rd, but later they standardized to using the FB name and now there is a range of different FB varietal wines.

FB is a joint operation between French winemaker Thierry Boudinard and British wine marketer Guy Anderson. They are sticklers for quality, and rent old vineyards in France to get the quality of fruit needed.

FB Chardonnay is the largest selling French Chardonnay in the USA.

For everything FB see http://www.fatbastardwine.com

(There is also a FB sold in South Africa made by the Robertson Winery)

The story of Fat Bast*rd (plus 100+ odd and unusual winelabels) is told in my book Marilyn Merlot and the Naked Grape, available from Borders and other book stores plus Amazon.

Ironically, I had the 2004 FB Shiraz tonight. It is a wine made from 100% Syrah from Southern france and quite different from the style of Shiraz a lot of Australia is producing (not Western Australia). It had a gorgeous color and very ripe raspberry and other red fruit on the nose, it was spicy and its time in oak shines through. It had a moderate amount of tannin, not exactly tight, but they are apparent. This is a beautiful wine and continues to be a favorite as the 2003 was delicious too!

Nice! I sell the South African verion of it. Teirry and Guy started it in France. At the back of the bottle you should find an address to write to and you will get a full history of the wine.

I know they have offered franchise winemaking to famrs throughout the world anf they try keep a house stryle. So it will be good. All the wines are made in a big expansive style.

About as subtle as a punch in the mouth!

Yes, it is a French wine. They make several varieties, reds and whites. 'Fat' is a term used to describe a rich wine. One of the two winemakers tasted their juice and said, 'Now that is what you call a fat bastard" and the name was born.

In my humble opinion, the Chardonnay is the best. They also offer traditional French varieties such as Shiraz and Merlot though. Regardless of the variety, it is a nice wine and has a good price/value.

Cheers!

Looks funny, heard good things about the taste. It should be great for a toast on thanksgiving, before or after the meal. Hopefully you have a fun crowd joining your Thanksgiving feast...is one bottle going to be enough?

Yep, I'd had the Fat B*****d Chardonnay before. I wouldn't say it's the best chardonnay I've ever had, but it was certainly nice and drinkable. Should go fine with your thanksgiving dinner.
