Your first response to this is going to be "What the?", but please read through it, as this actually works. However, you do have to accept that a certain number of gorrillas will be destroyed, but if it's controlled properly, then the species will not only survive, but will THRIVE, and the population of gorillas will increase many times over.
This is what's done in certain parts of Africa with regards to elephants: Grant ownership of the gorillas to the local tribes. The local tribes sell hunting permits, and there are only a certain number permits allowed.
This does a couple of things:
- Generates money for the tribes.
- When the tribes have money generated off of the gorillas, they have a vested interest in protecting the gorillas.
- Since the tribes have a vested interest in protecting the gorrillas, and since the more gorrillas there are the more money they can make, the tribes will protect their gorillas from the poachers, allowing the destruction of only certain gorillas: namely, the sicker and older ones.
When these systems have been set up, in 100% of the cases studied, the population of the animals increased significantly.

I've read that some modern medicines have replaced traditional ones that required the poaching of tigers. For instance, some men would consume a tiger product to be "more manly", but now there are more readily available drugs on the market that work to make a person "more manly".
Trying to keep it G-rated here folks...
But it is working at curbing tiger poaching and therefore worth mentioning.

Making fakes and flooding the market, killing the poachers, destroying the existing stocks, passing stricter laws in countries where they are not present, governmental pressure from developed countries making financial aid subject only to the enforcement effectiveness of the countries having the wildlife (which in most cases are developing or underdeveloped) and many more.
But, to get to the root of the problem, education and awareness in the locals and tribes living in that area of the importance of these rare animals. The aim should be to make them proud of their natural heritage and effectively make THEM the protectors.

im not sure about africa, but if you want to help in the fight against paching in the US, you can support your state wildlife organization by contributing money, or, like me, you can teach new hunters the ethics of taking an animal and how poaching is wrong. if you instill values in hunters when they are young, they can spread the word amongst there friends. i guess if you want to stop poaching in africa, you must take away the economy for the animal parts, so it wouldn't be profitable for the poachers to
even bother. i hope that helped you alitle with your question, God bless
PS, you don't happen to know anything about ionic and covalent bonds do you?

Make poaching as intolerable and as illegal as war crimes. Punish countries that allow importation of species that are endangered. Speak to any fur-wearer you know about the benefits of fake fur.

I agree with radio. They do this because wealthy people are willing to pay for those parts, or for rituals. As long as they can get away without being prosecuted they will do it. You may need to go to court to get a protection for these creautres

allow the animals to be farmed under captivity, and used to produce the items that are made from them that create the market for them.
flood the market with the items from the farmed animals, or make very convincing fakes and flood the markets with them.
but i like the idea of allowing poachers to be hunted.
