It depends upon how hungry the puppy is. If the puppy is loosing weight, or not interested in feeding,or is acting sick, take the puppy to a vet.

Let the mother have full access to her babies. She will know when to nurse them. Either they will call out to her or her mammary glands will engorge with milk. That being said, I have a momma who will leave her 3 week old babies for hours and return to them (even at night, she will get out, sleep with me and visit them several times). The puppies are healthy and well fed. As for human interaction that some one mentioned, that depends on the momma. I have petted and handled my puppies from day one and momma has no problems with it. It has never interfered with her bond or her feeding of them.

(FYI-she let them nurse almost constantly for the first two weeks and barely left the whelping box).

Puppies will nurse about every hour to every 2 hours. All through the day and night.

The mother will know best, just let her have access to her litter and she will take care of them. Very seldom is human interference needed or appreciated. Now, if for some reason the mother can't or won't take care of her babies, then it's best if you speak with your vet, they will be able to direct you to the best milk replacement diet and give you feeding directions along with other care needs.
