You hear more children getting in trouble by the law everyday. What makes children do this? Do you believe if more children today went to church like children back in the day would they think twice about breaking the law?

When we as a country allow guns in schools but not God, where did you think we were heading.

I never once seen the A.C.L.U. get on TV and denounce that fact that there are to many guns...Only too many Prayers.

That and rap music. Let me rephrase. There's nothing wrong with the music, only the gangster lifestyle it portrays and its demoralization of woman.

There is actually a sociological theroy for this. Its called Differential Association.

Basically, it means you are who you hang out with. Children who are raised in homes where deviant behaviour is seen as the norm and acceptable, will continue the behaviour in their own lives.

For example, how many children spend hours and hours playing violent video games? How many children now live under the poverty line with parents or relatives forced into illegal activity due to circumstance? Children see this, play these games, and beleive it is fine because Mom and Dad condone it.

Violence is on television everywhere, and we all let our children watch tv, violent movies, listen to music that glorifies the gangsta way of life - hoping that they know the difference between right and wrong. We teach our children to respect the almighty dollar and bling, that the ends justify the means - and not ethics of hard work, respect and appreciation for other people.

Going to church is not the answer. Part of gansta lifestyle actually has a strong root in religous belief. Religious values are a good starting point - but you need to guide your children.

Good old parenting and supervision is the key. Ensuring your children grow up with the appropriate notions of what is acceptable and what is not.

Just my opinion though.

No... I don't think church going "like back in the day" would solve anything. Children join gains for many reasons, however I think the leading decision making factor is the "familial unit." Children need a sense of family, and belonging. If they do not recieve that at home, where else can you find it? A gang is a type of collective family unit.

Going to church would not solve the problem. Most gang members I know go to church to have their sins forgiven; many have crosses, praying hands, the virgin Mary, or Jesus tattooed on their skin.

The gangs as we know them here in the U.S. began sometime in the 1940s. People went to church back then more than today, yet they were able to start all these gangs.

Kids join gangs to feel like they belong. Most of them are insecure, and need someone to tell them they are wanted, which makes them think their life means something.

I don't think church is the answer. Most rappers and gang member believe in God, beside churches aren't from "the good old days anyway" (but, that's another subject). And it's not because their parents aren't doing what they are supposed to either. Kids get involved in gangs because of the influence in schools and the cities they live in. Gangs are popular for kids who are trying desperately to "fit in" with other kids, and our public school systems don't do enough to help fix this problem in urban cities.
Trust me on this one, my son had trouble in Louisville a few years ago with a gang at school. He wanted to join and told us the other kids were going to "jump him in" in the bathroom. When we went to the school to discuss this the principal told us that he didn't understand why my son was having this problem. The principals response was "all of our kids are already in a gang." Needless to say my son did not spend another day at that school, and we have moved far enough away from that city that we don't have to face this problem.

I think that is a very strong possibility, however I do not believe that it would fix it as much as having an in-tact home. Children are growing up without disipline or it is very minimal. They are home by themselves, allowed to do so much more than a child should do. I believe that it starts at home with the family. Get the families like they were back in the day and things will get better. (i.e. eat together every night, mom at home, play games together, ect...) They need good old fashioned family values!!!

I think it all has to do with the home life. We as parents do not have enough time to spend with are kids and then they start to find knew friends and then they want to look older and they next thing there are a group of kids and all the great thing sex drugs and control sound kind of cool why not my parents will not know and then they are gone. Sure you can say the church or get them into sports but if we where spending time with them and making the time then we could do everything it takes.

I think it is all about the positive role models in their life. More kids are born out of wedlock or with a parent absent so by turning to a gang and gang like behavior they are accepted and feel that they are a part of something and rewarded for behavior which acts as a stand in for a parent.

They join gangs because there parents may not be spending enough time with them due to working or they just may not be around. So the gangs make them feel like they are family and recruit them while they are young.
To stop them from joining gangs would be for the parents to spend time with them doing things and getting them out the house guiding them. Religion only helps if it they have consistant parents as well who takes them regularly and guides them. It has to go hand in hand

I do belive that it relatively is a controversy simply by fact many ppl think of that they are going to easily die off and that they are going to be positioned at the back of bars.my sugestions are that the government ought to grant jobs so as that they could be off the streets. the government ought to fund some provention courses and those courses wil help provide up some gang violance and could reason ppl to connect and not be in the streets. this ought to be called a senior venture reason there are a number of circumstances that has ensue in the previous and could be use to instruct a element in the society and is not ordinary subject rely that has meaning to it.
